UTR - 161 | Retrospective (2011-2026)
__________________________________________________
Retrospective (2011–2026) collects ten of the most played recordings from the Unknown Tone Records catalog, spanning fifteen years of ambient, experimental, and electro-acoustic music. The compilation brings together a range of artists whose work helped define the label’s sound—moving from intimate guitar pieces and minimal electronic sketches to immersive environmental soundscapes.
Featuring music by Dylan Golden Aycock, Porya Hatami & Lee Anthony Norris, Annie Ellicott, twincities, Olan Mill, Danny Clay, Hedia, and Le Moors, the collection reflects the quiet, cinematic atmosphere that has shaped the label since its early releases.
A look back across the years, Retrospective (2011–2026) captures moments of stillness, memory, and atmosphere from artists across the Unknown Tone community.

The past 6 years have been a transformation. From 4 friends wanting to make something new and different to a fully realized vision of collaborative creativity. Sweet Roll was born out of the need to express ourselves in ways none of us had before. It is Rayna’s first band
and a markedly different direction than Bryce, Josh, or Zach had ever taken in their previous projects. Not only did we have to learn how to play together, but we had to learn how to play in ways that none of us had ever played before. Despite the setbacks of the 2020 lockdowns
which stopped our early momentum dead in it’s tracks, we rediscovered the chemistry that brought us together in the first place. This album is a culmination of that perserverance and hard work. It is a document of post-covid resiliance. Liminility represents everything we always hoped and dreamed Sweet Roll could be. We knew we had something special from the first time we all played together. This album is that potetntial finally being fully realized.
Thank you for being along for the ride.
-Love Rayna, Bryce, Josh, and Zach
