Bryce Flaskas (@bryce.flaskas ) is a multidisciplinary Artist, Musician and Poet operating out of Naarm/Melbourne, Victoria. Known for his work as a member of bands T.Z.O and T-Models, Bryce, on his solo debut “medium01” turns away from his experimental punk roots and forays into a specific brand of abrasive-lofi-folk.
Each song on “medium01” highlights a transitory lapse in time, a lulling sonic tapestry that never overstays its welcome. Buttery melodies fornicate with dry eruptions of noise. Bryce’s vocals sometimes offer impressions briefly displaced through a metallic dissonance, and other times cutting through with a warbled vulnerability.
“pull your mountain to the sky” is easily the most melodic track on the record. Beginning with an archaic strumming pattern that culminates in an acid drenched chant, then softly tapering itself back into the distance. “your eyes burn like puddles in the sand then turn to glass” is similar in its obscurity. Melancholic guitar drones and incantations occasionally pierce through an annihilation of effects and strums, subsiding to a dark aperture.
At its core “medium01” is an experimental-lofi-folk record, tethered between the giant wings of artists like “The Microphones”, “Mount Eerie” or “Daniel Johnston”. Strenuously clutching shards of itself - “medium01” reflects back a forest. And like a forest speaks its stories underground and in squiggly lines rolling across a page - spirals stretching themselves to distortion.

‘A work exploring the atmospheric and extractive conditions of a space in relation to the religious or sacred’
I’ve often felt dissatisfied with my efforts to condense a work like this into a small paragraph. Though I also recognise a degree of humility is needed to successfully ground an idea from the macro to the micro - may my practice continue to speak in many tongues and eventually make no sense at all.
So if you’re interested in talking more about it, please reach out; my line is forever open for these kinds of discussions 🌍💚
Love.
Out at the beautiful Werribee Gorge, traditional lands of the Wadawurrung and Wurundjeri Peoples 🍃💚
I ask you a simple question;
Why are you here?
Run your hands through Mother Earths soil, and remember your sovereignty.
A model of sovereignty that acknowledges inter-relation, the sacred heart beating.
Uncontrollably.
Here’s a quote I’ve been thinking about all week from American Poet, Wendell Berry;
“There are no sacred and unsacred places; there are only sacred and desecrated places”
My work in conversation with an elegant write up from @rickyrayricardo in the new issue of @kerbjournal , “Why We Need to Address Inequality in our Workplaces”.
Ricky touches on why workforce values are shifting, in relation to contrasting contemporary views - and addresses fragmentation in the workplace on an individual/global level, phrasing the argument through his own practice of Landscape Architecture. An accessible and relevant read 💙🌎
