Because not all wallpaper is made the same… We only make wallpaper here at Bruce Fine Papers, using the method which started it all…hand block printing, the first technique ever used to produce wallpaper here in Britain over 400 years ago. It’s a heritage craft on the endangered list, and produces a wallpaper filled with texture, tactility and honest British craftsmanship. We’ve been making wallpaper this way for over 30 years, so to find out why it is still so revered in the interior design industry as the go-to for bespoke and high quality products, get in touch and we’ll send you a sample today. #wallpaper #design #handmade #interiors #interiordesign

The faces behind our small family business! Could you work with your family? Husband and wife, Alex and Naomi, and their children Ellie and Jake make up the ‘Bruce’s’ behind Bruce Fine Papers. You may find yourself asking how we manage to mix not, just work, but a whole business with family—and the truth is we can’t really tell you but we do each have our own distinct ‘official’ and unofficial roles we’ve adopted, and we manage to make it (mostly) through a working day as a successful team, so there must be some magic behind the madness! #wallpaper #design #handmade #heritage #history #interiors #interiordesign #wallpaperhistory #heritagecraft #craft #printedintheuk #small #pattern #newcollection #familybusiness #family #meettheteam

Oakleaf was the paper we kept returning to. It seemed to hold everything we wanted the collection to be. Timeless but full of character, striking yet easy to live with. We all loved it from the outset, and seeing it come together in a palette inspired by the landscape and architecture of the Notswolds has only deepened that feeling. Drawn from a historic design discovered in the archive at Bruce Fine Papers, the original paper was found pasted to the back of a picture frame and is thought to date from the 18th or 19th century. Carefully restored and reissued using traditional hand block printing, it retains the softness, depth and irregular beauty of the original. Hand block printed in Lincolnshire in a family workshop using a process that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. Our thanks to @brucefinepapers for the extraordinary care, knowledge and craftsmanship they have brought to this collection from the very beginning. Bruce Fine Papers x Notswolds Oakleaf, available in six colourways: Blue Ground | Chalked Blue | Fired Clay | Green Earth | Limewash | Ochre Available now at notswolds.com - With special thanks to Claire Langley for kindly lending us a generous selection of antiques for the shoot. Available from the @clairelangley_ showroom in Stamford. ~ NOTSWOLDS | SIX COUNTIES. Travelling to an important photoshoot this morning for a new collection shaped over many months. Hours of sampling, colour testing, printing and reprinting. Conversations around tone, finish, proportion and light. Working alongside an exceptional team of makers and craftspeople, all deeply committed to doing things properly. At the centre of it is a belief in real craft and in keeping Britain’s endangered heritage skills alive through contemporary work and meaningful collaboration. Very nearly ready to share. ~ NOTSWOLDS | SIX COUNTIES. Giant poppies? Made out of Wallpaper? And over 700 handcrafted flowers? Here at Bruce Fine Papers our team loves an excuse to get creative with our wallpapers, so when we were invited to make a Chelsea Flower Show inspired window display for the Simon Playle team we knew we needed to go BIG. Naturally, that meant taking the floral elements from one of our latest wallpaper designs—Ostrich Feather—and using our ‘Small Prints’ patterns to bring them to supersized reality. 🌹🌸 If you find yourselves in the Chelsea area then be sure to check it out! Our window display will be up for the whole month of May and you just might find our recently launched ‘Ostrich Feather’ lurking inside in five brand new colourways to take away too. You can find the Simon Playle Showroom at 15 Langton Street, London, SW10 0JL. And don’t forget to tag us in your visit! 🏠

A sneak peak into one of our upcoming wallpapers… As the daughter of a naval officer, Naomi has had a vibrant childhood experiencing multiple cultures during her father’s various postings across the world. One memory which she remembers fondly is experiencing elephants in India, and the inspiration behind this latest design ‘Elephants’ coming soon!

Our marketing and design team have been moonlighting… …but we couldn’t be prouder! Ellie and Lucie often swap our wallpaper workshop for the fields during their week, sharing their metal detecting adventures online as @romanfound . And now it’s led to their first book together, ‘Things We Found in the Ground’, publishing this Thursday 9 April in hardback, ebook and audiobook read by the two of them. Covering their first three years of metal detecting adventures, for something that isn’t wallpaper related be sure to head to the link in their bio where pre-orders are available right now! Plus any pre-orders can even enter their competition for a chance to win a high-end metal detector worth £1,799. We are all looking forward to celebrating with them both this week!

The Heritage Crafts Red List of Endangered Crafts reads as a register of what we’re close to losing. Not because the work isn’t valued, but because it’s hard to sustain. Many of our heritage trades struggle to find and train the next generation. These are skills that take years to learn and a lifetime to master. It asks for patience, repetition, and a certain kind of devotion. At Bruce Fine Papers, it continues as a living practice. Two generations of the family work alongside a small team to preserve the heritage behind block printed wallpapers, archiving rare and historic papers, and passing down both skills and designs for future generations. Printed by hand, in one of just four workshops still working at this scale. The processes themselves have changed very little. Hand block printing has been used in Europe since the 16th century, and still relies on the same principles today. Colours mixed by eye, layers of pattern printed again and again to build up a surface of depth and rhythm. It requires skill, precision, and a feel for the craft that comes with time and experience. Work like this survives through use. Through people choosing it and living with it. Not preserved, but practiced. ~ NOTSWOLDS | SIX COUNTIES. Pretty in pink? Using a colour palette inspired by our own family tartan, this is our new contemporary twist on the heraldic roots of Santry Shield, our Victorian wallpaper which was originally found in the US. This design brings a striking and sophisticated look to an interior, perfect for traditional spaces, statement walls, libraries or dining rooms. Where would you have this colourway? Colourway shown: ‘Bruce’ Email [email protected] for any sample requests. All of our wallpapers are also available in any custom colourway. #wallpaper #design #handmade #interiors #interiordesign
