š THINGS WE FOUND IN THE GROUND š¤ Out Now! @harpernorthuk US @sourcebooks
Two gals and the āblockā. The block is made up of 88 individual objects from Iron Age Britain, wrapped and buried in either animals skins or fabric. The reason for its burial remains a mystery⦠but this groundbreaking exhibition @theyorkshiremuseum puts forward 4 plausible theories.
The blocks discovery is part of Melsonby Hoard, the largest hoard of Iron Age metalwork to ever be found in the United Kingdom.
Chariots, Treasure and Power: Secrets of the Melsonby Hoard. On display until Summer 2027.
The Melsonby Hoard is the largest hoard of Iron Age metalwork to ever be found in the United Kingdom. Discovered by metal detectorist Peter Heads in 2021.
We had the great privilege of attending @theyorkshiremuseum press day yesterday for the unveiling of their newest exhibition: Chariots, Treasure and Power: Secrets of the Melsonby Hoard.
We will be sharing why the hoard is important for Iron Age history in the North and what that means for the future of metal detecting in our next newsletter. Uploading next Friday on Substack!
The exhibition opens today and will be on display until Summer 2027.
We had the pleasure of taking Fergus from @countryfilemagazine āThe Plodcastā metal detecting a couple weeks back! We endured some pretty gnarly weather, not ideal when recording audio haha! But we did manage to find a 1948 sixpence between all the chatting and hail stones! Thank you! @blorengeviews
Our Plodcast episode is out now: Ep 347 on Spotify
