7SOS VOYAGES: SG NIGHT FEST ๐ก๐ชธ
Welcome to the fifth episode of our content miniseries in which the 7SOS cast and/or crew explore local nautical or fantasy events!!
This year, Singapore Night Fest adopted the whimsical theme of Island Nights, a colourful nod towards our local indigenous, pre-colonial island culture! Installations were scattered across central Singapore, from Dhoby Ghaut to Bugis, and our team got a chance to spot some of them on a night out! Joining us this episode are Tyler (Xuanwu), Nina (Terri) and Aven (visual effects artist) โจ
We started our trip at Plaza Singapura, guarded by a larger-than-life neon Cyberswordfish, made entirely out of e-waste by
@yangderongsg . The artwork was based on a familiar local folktale, the story of Hang Nadim, and makes a fascinating commentary on environmental responsibility, the rise of modern-day technologies such as AI. ๐ป
We moved on to Armenian Street, which was home to a group of glowing, waddling crabs, an artwork by
@2point013 and
@kaitkkt ! These cute critters were designed to pay homage to Southeast Asian crab folklore and maritime heritage, encouraging us to hold on to our memories, emotions, and how it all goes back to the sea. ๐
We also stopped by CHJIMES to visit an installation by our talented friend
@tororo.aoi , the artist of the Guardians Unheard album cover! Her art explores the story of a shipwreck and an epiphany, celebrating diversity and trade culture that plays a huge part in our national identity. Congrats, Ash, on the amazing projection!!! โ๏ธ
A huge thank you to
@sgnightfest for painting our corporate landscape with colour, for making our bus rides home a little brighter, and for placing a much needed spotlight on local folklore and mythology! ๐
