What would you do if you found a 170-year-old sealed pot… potentially filled with explosives? 💣 This unassuming grey ceramic pot, affectionately nicknamed ‘The Thing,’ was discovered during a routine check and identified as a possible Chinese fire-pot or hand grenade. 🤯 With its contents sealed for over a century, we had no idea what was inside. Could it be black powder, sulphur, or something more dangerous? Explosives expert Mike Sansom @brightfirepyro from @brightfireproductions unlocked its secrets. 🔍✨ Inside, we found 850g of crude black powder, a possible relic of the 12th or 13th century. But what was it for? A grenade? A powder transport vessel? Or just a traveler’s curio? The debate continues! 🤔 ‘The Thing’ has been safely decommissioned (don’t worry, no explosions here!) and returned to storage.
