Environmentally sustainable, new build office building at Manchester Science Park.
BASE is designed as a hub for computer engineering, energy technology, light manufacturing and materials science businesses. The building has 5 floors of conventional office space, co-working space, serviced offices and a "makerspace" facility at ground floor to produce prototypes and undertake product development.
The building facades are finished in a grey-multi brick with punched window openings using vertical proportions and a classically proportioned window arrangement. A multi-storey ‘cut-out’ section serves to clearly mark the building’s main entrance.
The floorplates have been designed with an efficient central core to facilitate ease of access to all customer suites, with each floor capable of being let as one full floor or up to 6 individual suites.
The building is designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘very good’ standard and EPC A rating; and utilises good thermal insulation standards, improved airtightness provisions, energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems, heat recovery systems and extensive rooftop PV panels.

No. 3 Circle Square is the final piece of the @circlesquaremcr masterplan – a new build 15 storey office building on the former BBC site at the head of the Oxford Road corridor in Manchester city centre.
The project is a speculative office building with large span floor plates, a reception with integrated cafe at ground floor, and amenity spaces on the top floor, that incorporate two large roof terraces.
We are excited to celebrate the launch of the completed project with our client Bruntwood SciTech in July and look forward to sharing more details of the building...

The building has been orientated with the majority of the large, triple-glazed openings facing south, and is super-insulated and certified airtight at 0.57 air changes per hour, with Passivhaus detailing throughout.

From the archive // 0212 Union
Exterior and interior refurbishment of a six-storey, 1980’s, purpose-built office block in the heart of Manchester.
Union is a full-building office refurbishment, focused around an upgraded ground floor reception, refurbished upper floor offices, and subtle enhancements to the building façade to improve both external aesthetics and daylighting internally.
The existing corner of the building was entirely re-modelled in order to serve as the focal point of each floorplate, with enlarged window openings providing previously unrealised views over Albert Square towards the Town Hall. The project was completed on site in October 2017.

From the archive // 0173 Neo
Full exterior and interior refurbishment of 15 storey office building located on the corner of Portland Street and Charlotte Street in Manchester city centre for Bruntwood. The building provides a sophisticated, informal and flexible working environment that gives users choice and helps to foster a sense of community; for people and businesses to connect.
The ground and entire first floor of the building are given over to shared spaces that include a media wall for digital art installations, common lounge, previously inaccessible external terrace, meeting and co-working facilities.
Externally, new curtain walling, repainted existing cladding and high level feature lighting serve to completely reinvent and reposition the building.
Neo won the ‘Refurbished/Recycled Workplace’ BCO award in 2018.
Neo was shortlisted for ‘Best Unbuilt Commercial Project’ at the 2016 MSA Awards.
The project was finished in early 2017 with 70% pre-let on completion.

As we enjoy the fine weather at the moment, we thought it would be great to share some shots of our workplace roof terrace designs.
At the recently completed No.3 @circlesquaremcr and BASE office building, flexible external roof gardens with covered terraces provide spaces to both work and relax as well as cater for special events and wellness sessions.
Dedicated customer work lounges open onto and look over the terraces making them a versatile and important destination amenity space within the workplace.

Creative exterior and interior transformation of an existing office building at Booths Park, Knutsford, to provide high quality serviced office suites.
This existing office building was entirely re-clad with new horizontal bands of Siberian Larch cladding, together with new bands of aluminium framed windows serving to completely transform the external appearance of the building.
The timber gives the building a beautiful organic appearance suited to its parkland setting. A new stone portico wraps the existing glazed entrance lobby, and serves to better demarcate the entrance to the building.
The setting of the building is further enhanced by a new hard and soft landscaping scheme by @plantie.sa

We’re proud to say that the current @omazeuk (Cheshire) house was designed by practice director Russell Bridge during his tenure at Stephenson Bell Architects.
Designed and constructed in 2010 for PH Property Holdings, the house was a fantastic project to work on for an informed & brave developer. Set in the Alderley Edge Conservation Area, the new house is a bold contemporary design which nestles into the red sandstone strata of the Edge, making great use of the challenging level differences across the site.
We hope it makes a great new home for the lucky winner!
