Review: 40768-Type 15-Shuttlepod was the GWP for the purchase of the USS Enterprise D released late last year. Normally I would post the gift with purchase after the main build but I was so excited to get this shuttle pod and the minifig of Ro Laren that I did this first. Ro was probably one of my favourite secondary characters on the show who really showed a quiet strength after years of adversity under Cardassian rule. The minifig also shows her Bajoran earpiece on the minifigs head. Who is your favourite secondary character from the Next Generation? The Shuttlepod Onizuka was one of three on the series and named after Ellison Onizuka, 1 of 7 astronauts who lost their lives after the Soace Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986. This re-creation shows the small ships ability to achieve warp drive with the smaller warp nacelles in the side, 3 access points to the shuttlepod, impulse engines in the back, a large display and control console or LCARS (Library Computer Access and Retrieval System) and the demarcation signs showing Onizuka and USS Enterprise NCC1701-D. The Y-Wing Starfighter, set 75172, is this weeks Star Wars Saturday retro build. Released in 2017, this 691 piece build was first seen in the original Star Wars movie as one of the heavy bomber units meant to soften up targets for the X-Wings trench attacks. I remember picking this up to complete the set of Starfighters from the original movie as I had the B-Wing and X-Wing fighters already. This updated set came with a weapons loader, rebel Astromech droid, and the ability to turn a gear wheel that would open the hatch and drop bombs. The set also came with Admiral Raddus, a Y-Wing pilot, a Stormtrooper and Moroff the Gigoran mercenary who we first met in Rogue One. My greatest regret last year was not being able to pick this particular set up. I had made a note to remind me to preorder then got busy at work and then was all sold out. And I really wanted the gift with purchase, the Shuttlecraft Onizuka with Ro Laren Minifigure who was one of my favourite characters on the show. At Christmas I was shocked when my daughter brought me this incredible set as a gift at Christmas and was surprised even more when I opened it and inside was both the USS Enterprise D and the GWP. Over the next few weeks I will be building this set bag by bag and I am hoping that you like it and will share stories with me about your favourite episodes and characters. Final build in this Lego Creator 3in1, Colourful Hummingbird set. The designers really picked some great colours for this set which really showed how you can tweak designs subtly with the use of plates and in this case use the larger elements from the flower rim the first build to make these beautiful wings. Alright so we have the next build in this Creator 3in1 set, Colourful Hummingbird, which is the Tropical Fish from set 31384. Redesigning the flora to take on more of a sea bed feel we have a kind of zebra fish build with the vibrant coloured plates that work so well for the tropical fish. Brightly coloured they have few enemies and are a treat for scuba divers and aquarium enthusiasts alike. Similar to other 3in1 sets, tropical fish are always a fun go to and is amazing the different designs for them. The first build in this Creator 3in1, set 31384, is simply stunning and really jumped off the page when I first saw it. With its vibrant colours and cool parts usage I really enjoyed putting it together. It has a nice solid base that the plants can be built upon and the large curved translucent pieces really gave us the feeling that the hummingbird was just hanging in the air. The multiple clip joints and other small plates really brought out the dynamic colours of the wings and body. Then I saw her face…….. I felt weak in the knees and my head was spinning when I saw the girl of my dreams. In this months @bradyjoynerbricks challenge with Justin we were to build a round or modified disk and put it in a MOC using the SNOT (studs not on top) technique. The first thing I thought of was a face with eyes looking like they were out of focus or dizzy and of course I had to have a spinning head. Review: 31384-Colourful Hummingbird is completed with the third build in this Creator 3in1 set, Beautiful Butterfly. Again the vibrant colours really lend themselves to making a very unique and colourful butterfly similar in fashion to tropical fish and the hummingbird. Also, with the different types of joints, the designers can create a variety of differing plants that the butterfly can land on. While tropical fish and butterfly’s get used in a lot of the builds, this hummingbird was the outstanding star of the show.
