following nine months of travel adventures, we close up on our protagonists on a plane, narrowly escaping the virus in asia as they arrive in vancouver, canada. (backdrop of wilderness and rainbow because it just rained). the lack of tension in the air feels strange. did they travel back in time? everything was pre-pandemic normal. (scene of people eating in restaurants with family and friends, no social distancing and without wearing masks). normal life would be short lived; it was too late. (visual of world map with planes flying around spreading red). the first wave has come to shore and spread quickly. the medical system is overloaded as people fight for their last breaths. countries are forced to close their borders and shut down. (visuals of crowds panicking, ambulances and sirens, hospitals wards with nurses running, businesses being boarded up, stocks crashing, empty grocery shelves, wildfires and smoke, riots and protests, police brutality, people crying and lots of dead bodies). soon, the virus spreads across the entire world forcing most humans indoors while others escape to rural areas in search of a new start, far away from the chaos of large cities. we all adapt to a new way of life. health care workers work tirelessly to save lives. medical employees, teachers and front line workers emerge as heroes but they don’t get the support they need. groups of non-believers continue to spread the virus and governments fight over vaccine shortages. the virus begins to mutate and it isn’t long before reports of the walking dead start to trickle in. and then, our protagonists wake up. but was it all a dream? 2020 - the beginning of a zombie movie.
did you know mount royal is not actually a dormant volcano? for some reason, i always thought it was. it is however, made of volcanic rock formed below the earth’s crust over 125 million years ago.

we were only supposed to be gone for 6 months but life had different plans. fifteen months, 20+ flights, 8 countries and 20+ towns/cities. we had the pleasure of living in singapore, the worlds most expensive city, visit the sacred temples of bali, connect with my roots and family in taiwan, discover the hidden gems in japan’s alleys, learn about vietnam’s history, explore the haunted streets of georgetown, sunsets from beaches of phuket, the religious wonders of kuala lumpur and the beauties of british columbia. what a crazy adventure!
the gastown steam clock was built in 1977 to cover a steam grate, part of vancouver's distributed steam heating system, as a way to harness the steam and to prevent people from sleeping over the grate in cold weather.
