I've watched leaders walk into rooms carrying unprocessed anxiety about a reorg โ and unknowingly hand it to every person there.
Not because they didn't care.
Because nobody gave them a place to process it first.
I know this personally.
Years ago, I knew my team was going to be laid off two weeks before anyone was told. I carried it alone โ no leadership team to work through it with, no space to get clear. Just hold it and keep moving.
One of the hardest leadership experiences of my life.
Here's what I've learned since:
Your team will experience this change through you. Through the perspective you model. The energy you bring into the room.
Before you can lead them through it โ you have to decide how you're going to hold it yourself.
That's not a soft idea. It's an operational one.
Leaders who get clear on their own perspective first โ and align with their team on how they'll lead together โ show up differently. Their teams feel it.
The difference between a team that fragments under pressure and one that pulls together often comes down to what happened in the leadership layer before anyone else knew there was something to navigate.

Yesterday, we spent the day in downtown Boston with Teresa Brazen. A group of educators, creative directors, project and volunteer managers, and design researchers from the CoDesign Collaborative community participated in the Inspirational Leadership Masterclass. The Masterclass centers on the importance of building a leadership practice, whether you are managing a design team, external clients, volunteers, or emerging professionals. We learned new skills, role-played experiences, and shared our own growth and leadership opportunities and challenges.

Here's something I notice in almost every VP I work with.
The higher they climb, the more pressure they feel to project certainty they don't actually have. โ๏ธ
The data is incomplete. The path isn't clear. AI is rewriting the rules mid-game. And still, people are looking to them for answers.
I was snow tubing with my son this weekend. Backwards. โ๏ธ๐ท No visibility, no steering, no idea what's coming next. At one point I laughed and thought โ oh. This feels familiar.
Confidence doesn't come from certainty. It comes from trusting your ability, and your team's, to experiment, adapt, and recover when things don't go as planned.
Going into the unknown doesn't have to feel so heavy. Exploration can be fun. Even when it's uncomfortable. Especially when it's fast.

Picture this: a meditation to meet our 7-year-old selves โ yes, 11,000 people meditating together. My inner child wouldโve thought it was magic.
Honestlyโฆ sheโd be right. ๐
Saw a lot of familiar faces, hung out with friends (hi @julia.lopez711 ), and also had the opportunity to meet new ones.
And the speakers?
@simonebiles took the stage with power and clarity.
@melrobbins brought the fire.
@marthastewart48 , absolutely hilarious and casually dropping that she was on the cover of Sports Illustrated at 82 (how did I miss this?!)
โ About 80 free hair + makeup stations giving out professional headshots like candy. Only this conference. It was big, bold, energizing, and surprisingly emotional.
Iโm leaving inspired, grounded, and grateful for spaces like this, where women gather to learn, reconnect with themselves, and expand whatโs possible. ๐
