Lately, I’ve found myself having trouble appreciating the present moment. At the same time, I have a hard time remembering the past. My experience of time feels like a clouded state of disintegration. In @brandontran0 ’s film Handmade Keyhole, the character Alex seems to go through a similar experience. I wanted to show the physical state of remembering and its strange threshold of past and present through sound. A sound redesign of a scene from the film Yojimbo (1961), directed by Akira Kurosawa. I recorded and designed all of the sound you hear aside from the dialogue. A friend of mine suggested that I try my hand at a sword fighting scene, so I chose my favorite Kurosawa film.
I wanted to use this project to practice focus in my mixing, highlighting information and sound elements for emotional effect. I also now have some cool gore recordings of knives and fruits.

I did a sound redesign of one of my favorite scenes from Antonioni’s L’Eclisse by recording and designing everything you hear aside from the dialogue. It’s a quiet sequence, so it was fun building the mood through ambience, sound effects, and performing the foley. It’s hard to walk half as cool as Delon and Vitti though.
