HEY!!
Did you pick up your copy of my minimalist Rompler House (TM) classic in waiting ‘Accompanying Flute’ yet? Seriously, give it a year and it will be all the rage.
You probably didn’t know it exists due to my poor marketing skills.

The A-Side even got a few spins on Rinse Fm!
First Koala Sampler triple pack reel!
Been a while since I’ve really used Koala, just going through old sketches. I do like the lo-fi vibes from using screen recordings, but it is really lo-fi. Like maybe too lofi?
All quite dark!

Three new tracks. Don’t really know how to describe them. Drum machines, dub delays, 303, twee melodies, “Electro” drums, harsh chords! References to the classics!
Handcrafted in Hayle, Cornwall. With one speaker and Fruity Loops.
There are songs in my “catalogue” that I have avoided listening back to as I thought they’d sound super dated and, as the kids say, cringe.
‘Bulbs Burn Out’ (have to credit Diplo for the title) was one of them. I had this memory in my head that it’s was a poor attempt and doing a Baltimore style tune with a horribly side chained white noise bass synth. Blog House.
Listening back (with teeth gritted) this is exactly what it is, but you know what.. I’d like to think that by getting it all a bit wrong it gives it a bit of charm. I was so excited by some of the club music I was hearing at that time; a genre made from a pool of common elements to give it its signature sound - it reminded me of when I made jungle on my Amiga 10 years earlier. I wanted to give it a go, but I also wanted to make it a bit different. I’m not from Baltimore, I’m from Penzance. It’s not right to just take their sound wholesale!
I really like the octave jumping trance riff which was meant to be a bit silly, and single note sample sax riff (which was later expanded on with the great Obi Blanche remix on the ‘Still Killing’ remix EP). That’s quite hilarious in itself and I’ll have to do a post on it - the remixes, aside from the fantastic @discoelectronique remix of Suspense, with cowbells and stomp clap fills, all bear so little resemblance the originals. Mad Decent got Memory Tapes to do a mix and it had the same vibe as that story of Aphex Twin being asked to deliver a remix and pulling a random DAT off a shelf. My own remix of Cricket Scores was a Moog led disco version that only kept the chords as a background element. The fact MD put it out, and also did vinyl, at the height of the mp3 era…. Hahaha. Fun times.
Anyway. I really wished I’d toned down the white noise bass synth thing. Maybe I’ll fix it for its 20th (😩😩😩😩) anniversary!

Many thanks to @tomravo for playing my track ‘Beach Court’ on his @rinse.fm show this week!
The track is out now on Bandcamp (link in bio) as part of a release called ‘Click, Pop, Hiss’ and it’s a free or pay what you want number, along with the B-Side ‘Accompanying Flute’ - which contains a flute!!
Track is definitely a homage to mid 00s minimal and tracks like Isolee’s Beau Mot Plage which had a huiuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge impact on my tastes when I found it way back in my Uni days. Might do more. I also know I have a turbo speed version lying around somewhere 😅
It’s funny, of all the tracks I put out in that flurry of activity towards the end of last year, this isn’t the one I thought people would be into!
It’s funny, due to a lack of genuine playing skills and a frustration at everything sounding too “sample library”, I decided to repurpose some of my piano ideas into something noticeably more programmed and artificial. I then sat on them for ages as I thought that was to their detriment.
Anyway, roll on to 2026 and I’m sure Spotify is awash with AI generated piano music (I’m not going to look), so in many ways my fake piano is less fake than the fake piano music that sounds less fake than my fake piano music.
It’s also nice to just let stuff go. Maybe I’ll do more.
One of these tracks is on Bandcamp, for free!
TL;DR: I made some piano music

Know I’ve posted this before on the old B8B account, but think it’s a good bit of archival footage of the bloghouse era.
We weren’t all just playing indie disco remixes (many of which I still adore) it was a fun melting pot of stuff we were finding via MySpace and the blogs. I hadn’t heard of Baltimore and club music before discovering it via Mad Decent and people involved with the label - it led me to a whole new world. Remember a lot of niche / bassline tunes doing the rounds (those wideboys remixes) Funky, early proto bro-step(😬)
That’s sounds naive, but up until about 2005 I was still on dialup internet. The MySpace / Broadband switch up was crazy. The world opened up!
Small clubs are also fun. This was in Leeds around 2008. Not sure this pays as well as some corporate gig in some dubious, sterile hellhole, but I imagine it’s infinitely more fun.
Think this is a DJ Slice tune…
Fun times!
Few new bits up on Bandcamp. Some Boy 8-Bit club tools and then something on more of a side project tip - I know some people aren’t really into 163bpm breaky trance hardcore numbers 😂
Sorry for erratic release schedule. Just want to get stuff out!
A few years back the three of us teamed up to release one of the most illegal records of all time on Tim Reaper’s @futureretrolondon label. Recently the label went into an indefinite hiatus so we just want to say thank you to Tim for having us. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever met anyone with a work ethic like his. Truely inspiring. An insane amount of work over the last decade or so. Running a vinyl label with multiple releases a month, singlehandedly. Running a night AND holding down a job (very sensible)
He has also liked every photo I have posted of the dog on my personal account.
Tried to make myself look as much like a 40+ year old jungle revivalist as possible.
Selfie for the ‘gram.
Bit weird taking back music. Almost feels like a diss, but if it’s out of contract and you haven’t spoken or worked with the label since release it’s probably in everyone’s interests. Turbo have been super easy to deal with for ‘Yardbirds’, thanks to them for having me and a fun summer touring with @tiga back in the day.
They sent over a folder of stuff related to the release and it was like a window back to 2010, quite nostalgic. Blog coverage! @erolalkan 2010 charts, Juno’s web player. Vinyl costing less than a pint! (And selling out!) Beatport was a magnificent lime beast that everyone used - and no sign of those additional streaming fees I was asked to pay the other day 😂
