When Paul Bestbier from @ndtracing approached us late last year, the objective was clear: provide a 2L NA K20 that could handle the rigors of endurance racing after they’d been let down by other engine builders.
We supplied our flagship K20R—our top-spec 2L K-Series capable of over 300BHP NA (UK DIN-Correction).
The engine was destined for @racing_spiritsa Ligier JS53 Evo 2. While endurance racing is the ultimate goal, the team targeted the 2026 Simola Hillclimb “King of the Hill” for its first competitive shakedown.
Due to the tight build schedule once the engine arrived in South Africa, the K20R was still running a standard RRC inlet and a standard Ligier exhaust system.
This event was always meant to be a shakedown, with any result considered a bonus. To walk away with a Class Victory and an incredible lap time is a testament to the driving of @connorkilbride_@racing_spiritsa and the raw potential of the K20R straight out of the crate.
The next phase for this K20R engine includes fitting @atpowerthrottles throttle bodies and a full custom Bourne HPP exhaust system that we provided.

The K-Series has been a staple for two decades, but we’re now seeing the limits of these castings. After 20 years of abuse, we’re finding many of these heads have sunk. The factory seat geometry is fatigued and the integrity is gone, you can’t just throw new valves in and expect it to live at 9,000 RPM.
By installing Be-Cu seats, we’re solving the problem at the source. The thermal conductivity is far superior to steel, pulling heat away from the valves faster and providing the impact resistance needed to stop seat recession in its tracks.
