Diorama of a Sunrise Setting is open TONIGHT from 6-9pm @fjord_ as part of Second Thursdays Featured in the exhibition is a new drawing-sculpture, 1-70. 1-70 is my version of a “great” American landscape. Drawn with pastel, charcoal, and ink on velour paper, framed in steel in the shape of a boxy car. The cacophony of marks gesture at the transition between the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains at points of sunrise or sunset. Sheet metal cliffs jut from the frame and serve as nests for various bird decoys. Some used to lure animals for hunting and others designed to repel both predator and prey from outdoor spaces occupied by humans. These decoys are actively shitting, their guano piling up on the ledges below, reaching toward the ground and forming stalactites. Overrun by the waste is an abandoned car and a scorpion, sitting with the birds is a fly. Formally this work becomes vehicle, infrastructure, landscape, and ecological display while hinting at an underlying violence within depictions of the Western United States as a land of opportunity, beauty, and adventure. Come by tonight and on Saturdays from 1-5pm to check out the exhibition at FJORD! 1-70, pastel and charcoal on velour paper, steel, bird decoys, toy car, bug figurines, wax 110” x 54” x 8” 2026

“Ultimate Avenger” lighting tree & lights, cast resin cords & to-scale left eye of Michelangelo’s “David”, wire, clamps, zip ties, looping hd video 122” x 82” x 32” 2025 Ultimate Avenger is a video-sculpture that is mainly constructed with an altered Ultimate lighting tree and various found lights including a sound activated American DJ Avenger II stage light. Each light is affixed with a cast red translucent cord bundle or a to-scale left eye of Michelangelo’s “David”. Three monitors loop short videos, the main one being a POV like video documenting the hibiscus tree I gave @strangehomosexualman for their birthday in full bloom, another an electrical wire I shot from the street, and another the super moon last summer. The lighting tree itself is covered with layers of cords and wire much like many of the light poles in the city. This work thematically explores queer nightlife and raving and seeks to merge together the figure in motion at the function and the infrastructure of the party itself. I got this lighting rig @jinxedstore in 2021 or 2022? I’ve been slowly working on this piece since and finally think I can call it done. YOU WANT HIGH CONCEPT VIDEO ART YOU GOT IT MOMMA xoxoxo ❤️🌹♥️🥵❣️❌🍷💥❗️

Sharing more work I finished for Beneath the City, a World @theluminaryarts earlier this year! Obliquely Cut Three-Way Junction grout, wire mesh, pastel, and paint on wooden panel, steel, resin 48” x 70” x 80” 2025 Going back through my camera roll I started working on this last February 😂 kept going back to these images of a sidewalk in my neighborhood that had been scratched into repeatedly by an angle grinder right where Point Breeze meets 22nd and Tasker, a true three-way junction. The steel talismans using the drawing as a base reference gestures scratched into the grouted surface and stop lights or train crossing signs. Also pictured is my large midwestern family that came to the opening! ❤️💕🌻

LAST WEEKEND to catch Four on the Floor: Zach Hill and Kim Miller April 3 - April 26, 2026 Hours: Sat-Sun from 2-6 PM Zach Hill @bottomaspirations works across drawing, sculpture, and video to play with material identity, visual perception, and speculative utility. For Four on the Floor, Hill presents a hovering, obelisk-like multimedia triptych that combines gestural and intuitive abstractions from his drawing practice with his explorations in nightlife visuals. Tar paper previously used as a projection mapping surface is stapled chaotically to boards then worked over with charcoal, pastel, ink, and encaustic. This piece is further activated with stage lights. Shown alongside this new work on three small monitors are video sequences Oculus, Atmospheric Windshield, and Blossom that the artist created for underground queer nightlife events in Philadelphia over the last year.  Kim Miller @kimmillerkimmiller combines performance and video to explore the dancefloor as a site of learning and social possibility. Inspired by the writing of theorist Sylvia Wynter, Miller investigates social choreography, the ways bodies organize and move together in shared space. In her work, social choreography functions as a set of relations that shapes social dance and examines how people gather and relate to one another, allowing the dance floor to become a site where collective life and liberation can be rehearsed. Her installation centers on a 3 × 5-ft illuminated sculpture of a dance floor paired with a monitor screening L.E.G.S. Light Emitting Glow System. Accompanying the video is a 24 piece grid of diagrammatic drawings and choreographic scores that map gestures, timing, and relational movements.  Across their practices, Hill and Miller collect fragments of gestures and encounters and transform them into sculptural and visual forms. Through the exhibition, the artists invite viewers to consider how shared movement can create temporary communities and new ways of relating to and celebrating one another.

ECHOLOCATE (Cultivating Liminal Aesthetic Practices) Let’s take a closer look at the visual artists setting the aesthetic vibes for ECHOLOCATE on April 24th from 6-9pm at the Haverford Skate House. Emmanuela Soria Ruiz @emsoruiz is an artist whose work spans sculpture, performance, video, and drawing. Her practice explores the relationship between language, mythology, and Baroque aesthetics from feminist and posthumanist perspectives. Her installation in the Skate House will engage the dancefloor directly. (Slides 1-3) Brandon Aquino Straus @brandon_aquino_straus is an interdisciplinary artist working with multichannel video, 3D environments, and installation. His practice integrates archival research, digital modeling, and conceptual storytelling to examine cultural memory, ecology, and Filipino/American histories. He will be activating the scenic surroundings of the Skate House through video interventions. (Slides 3-6) This is a FREE event that is open to all ages. The Skate House is conveniently located near the train station and can be reached via regional rail or septa. There is parking available as well.
