David Hockney’s joiner photos have fascinated us for years. His idea of bringing the viewer into the photo as a reaction to the “frozen moments” in traditional photography resonated with us. Making this album was similar to this process, assembling and reassembling over several years to come up with a sound that was layered but not fussed over.
When it came time for the artwork, we reached out to long time friend, photographer, and rug dealer @mikaelkennedy 📸 We shot the cover images on top of an under-construction parking structure by the train tracks in Atwater Village. As time passed, we watched the surfliner roll by, birds circle, the light change, the sun set. Later, these 216 images were assembled into one image. The car shots were done at Mikael’s studio.
