Iโll be honest Iโve mostly shown up to the larger, more visible protests here in Buffalo. Itโs one thing to show up for a participation trophy (an IG photo) but what matters more is continuing to show up, staying informed, and sharing what you can.
As a photographer, I constantly question my role during what feels like some of the most critical years of our generation. A camera can be one of the most powerful tools for spreading a movement, and in the past thatโs intimidated me. I still show up when I can, but often I donโt share the photos I take.. out of fear of exposing undocumented people through facial recognition, flagging people in some mystery surveillance system, being labeled a clout chaser, or unintentionally constructing the wrong narrative. Thereโs a lot to think about.
Whatever tho. These are the people I witnessed todayโ showing up, standing by their principles, and moving together during one of the darkest timelines in this country.
