Anderson Borba presents “Black Faun” (2026), the artist’s first outdoor sculpture, in “The Storytellers,” a group show curated by Iwona Blazwick e Katie Fallen at Worcester College, Oxford. The figure of the faun—poised between human and animal, body and instinct, and often bound to music—offers a useful lens for Borba’s piece, where bronze, wood, and stone converge into an “almost-body” composed of abstract fragments. Rather than coalescing into a stable figure, these volumes suggest a material and sensorial presence, while a form recalling a flute introduces the idea of breath and latent sound, as if the work were organized around an invisible, animating force. 📅 Through Jul 05, 2026 [Até 05.07.2026] 📍Worcester College, Oxford Ph: Fisher Studios

Opening today ☀️ Join us this afternoon for the opening of The Unearthed by Brazilian artist Anderson Borba. Borba works primarily with found wood sourced locally to his studio in Barra Funda in São Paulo, alongside materials such as cardboard, textile, plaster, and found images from books, magazines and photography. These serve as starting points for processes of carving, hollowing, scorching, pressing, painting and gluing, resulting in heavily worked, enigmatic forms that seem ‘partly animal, partly plant, partly humanoid, partly extraterrestrial.’ Today, Sat 21 March, 1.30–4.30pm All very welcome | Free entry | Wheelchair accessible | Refreshments available Exhibition runs 21 March-31 May Open Thurs-Sun, 11am-4pm Or by appointment out with those times

📍East @approachgallery For the fifth edition of London Gallery Weekend, The Approach presents Anderson Borba (6 June – 26 July 2025), the Brazilian artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, comprising new sculptures and paper collages. Borba lives and works in both London and São Paulo. Through his practice, he seeks textural ambiguity, twisting and expanding the material and conceptual possibilities of wood, creating autonomous totems or hanging wall reliefs. A distinctive feature of Borba’s approach is the synthesis of traditional techniques with contemporary modes of expression, such as digitally manipulated images where the boundaries between image and material blur. Borba’s practice involves negotiating with materials to determine the final form of his works. The artist carves, burns, paints, presses, and manipulates these elements in a process-driven construction, resulting in rough, cracked, yet seductive body shapes. Influenced by both the historical canon of sculpture and the self-taught artists of Brazil’s interior, Borba operates within a complex interplay between concept and experience, displacing and unfolding the physical body into an anthropomorphic abstraction. His sculptures, marked by a strong sense of physicality, often assume near-human scales, gazing impassively at those who observe them. – Anderson Borba, Elf Arrow, 2024, wood, paper, plaster, wood stain, oil pastel, transparent gesso, steel, 186 x 35 x 40 cm, 73 1/4 x 13 3/4 x 15 3/4 in.
