In honor of Independent Bookstore Day, I’m sharing reader love letters from our brand-new community-sourced guide to San Francisco’s beloved bookstores. Today we celebrate Booksmith, one of the funkiest, coolest spots in San Francisco (book-related or otherwise!). They’re known and loved for their stellar staff picks, fun events, principled curation, and, of course, secret passageway (shhhh) to the bar next door. #independentbookstore #indiebooks #bookstoresofsanfrancisco #booksmithsf #samepagesf
thank you to all of our book buds who came out this weekend for indie bookstore day! if you had a great time wandering around the shelves and chatting about books, you're in luck because we do this every day, 11-7. 💕📚☀️
last night was a bit of a "pinch us" moment as we hosted the legendary melissa auf der maur (yes, the bassist from THOSE bands)with jason roth at the shop for the release of her memoir EVEN THE GOOD GIRLS WILL CRY.
thank you to everyone who came out to both of our sold out shows and thank you for all the love and energy (and memorabilia) you brought!
congrats to @xmadmx ! you now get to add "author"
to your long list of titles and talents: let's do it again for the photo book?
signed copies of ETGGWC in the shop!
it's 2016 and you're an indie turning 40 and you're making iggi merch / it's 2026 and you're an indie (almost) turning 50 and you're still making iggi merch
(are we turning 50 and throwing a party about it this summer? idk, maybe. 😘 )
Everyday is Indie Bookstore Day in our world, but this Saturday, April 25th, you're invited to celebrate it with us! Nothing too formal or fancy in the works, just a little tarot by our favorite @jessejae , plus Literary Bingo and a Golden Ticket for 12 free audiobook credits hidden somewhere in the store courtesy of Libro.fm!
At 4pm, The Alembic opens next door and you can browse our shelves with a tasty drink of your choice and pretend you're in the 90s rom com of your dreams.
RSVP with a sliding scale donation to enter a raffle for fun prizes:
⚡️$3-$10: a totebag of free books
⚡️$10-$20: two free tickets to a Silent Reading Party for you and a friend.
⚡️$20+: a $30 Booksmith gift card

there are only so many times you can be asked "do you have a manga section?" before you simply give the people what they want. now in the shop, come see!
HAPPY APRIL! come see us at one of our events this month. it will be fun and everyone will talk about how cool you are for being there. trust me. 😎
