This collection of short romantasy stories, written by @mqcoyle , features your favorite cryptids in a variety of cozy, queer-inclusive, and paranormal romances. This book’s design highlights a select bunch of Cryptid Creek’s very own heartthrobs, including Mothman, who is a barista, Fresno Nightcrawler, who shreds at skateboarding, and more. I chose fonts that felt romantic, with a touch of Southern Gothic and whimsy, to blend the aspects of a fantasy town set in modern-day. The interior includes character-specific chapter icons, ornate dinkuses, and flourished frames that I designed to spotlight character illustrations done by @wendystephensart . The cover design features Mothman as a barista, offering the reader a latte done up with heart-shaped latte art, framed by repeating hearts, Looney-Tunes-style, set against a starry night sky. Catching up on sharing some recent projects; Behold! ✨The Crone Zone ✨ This one was super fun to work on with the talented illustrator @pamwishbow , who is expert in creating layered artwork that blends attitude and grittiness, while bringing magic to everyday objects. The cover art, as well as the chapter opener illustrations, have a fun scavenger-hunt like quality, thanks to all the thoughtful details she included! I really enjoyed establishing the color palette and type treatments for this book, to make it feel intriguingly mystical, yet grounded and relatable for women and folks approaching Cronedom in their own lives. Growing Into You! A shame-busting puberty guide for tweens and their caregivers and educators. We worked with illustrator @buhbuhbrianna who has done an awesome job on the cover illustration as well as a plethora of anatomy and lifestyle depictions in the interior. For the title, I traced and embellished a font to mimic the texture and linework of the illustrations, to further give an approachable and friendly vibe to the cover.
