Through childhood and adolescence, my family was fortunate to claim the great Scottish poet Alastair Reid as a close friend. Among his accolades (although low on his list), he was the first person to ever write about our sport in the United States, and wrote on the World Cup for the New Yorker from 1966 to 1982. He was a true fan of the sport, and I remember being sat down as a child to be told of the legacy of Pele. This was not a joking matter, nor one of reminiscence, this was a serious attempt, in the antiquated fashion of story-telling, to honor and pass on the legacy of the King. Plays, goals, and showboats that couldn’t be accounted for by video but that he had been spectator to, which he assured to me could never be repeated. Numbers are numbers, Pele had a lot of them. Trophies are trophies, and tactics change along with the evolution of the sport. Generational players claim their respective thrones and win the hearts of nations and fans. But there is only one King, responsible for creating the football we all love today. <3 Thank you Alastair for passing your memories… thank you Pelé for the happiness that you brought to Brazil. Obrigado Pelé, pela alegria q voce trouxe a Brasil.
So much happening…
Amidst the madness, excited to be spinning a show with my brother @jueppa_fc through my first sound system installed in a public venue. Thank you @masqueradebrooklyn
