In 2018, one of my best friends disappeared from my life without a word. Poof! Gone, not a trace. It was as if she had died, and to this day I still don’t know what it was that caused her to leave. In Redwood City, You Meet Real People was born out of that mourning in an attempt to give myself the closure that she would not.

I Had Long Hair Last Fall is IRCYMRP’s spiritual successor: a concept album exploring distance, loneliness, and the rise of Gods. Painted against the backdrop of my transition from college into adulthood, these songs trace the arrivals, departures, and subsequent deification of several key figures in my life. It’s a brutal cycle that I have spent the past five years trying to make any amount of sense of.

People come into your life, they grow and they change, and then, eventually, they may leave. That is what makes them real. Odds are that you were made a better person by them having been there at all.
