I’m kinda embarrassed to admit this, but I’ve always been trying to find ways to justify the sacrifices I make for this skiing thing. Last winter I got nominated for Skier Of The Year by @newschoolers . Only five other skiers got nominated and they’re all goats. Prolly one of the biggest accomplishments of my life. It’s taken me a minute to process, and it low key changed the way I look at myself. I know, I shouldn’t need a nomination to justify doing something I love, something that gives me meaning and a sense of belonging. I’m pretty confident the “I don’t give a f*ck what you think” energy shines through in my skiing. But at the same time… I do think great art needs context. The best art comes from communities and movements, not from individuals disconnected from the world they’re speaking to. To me that’s a big part of what skiing is about, trying to express and share feelings that are best communicated with two planks on some snow. Every skibum knows the sacrifices we make for this niche hobby. It can’t just be me wondering what the f*ck I’m doing with my life, when I’m literally grinding my ass off, doing strange circus stunts in the middle of the street while most passersby just think I’m in the way. That’s when nominations like this, and the digital love y’all send means the world to me. It makes me feel heard. It reminds me I’m not a crazy person talking to a piece of metal in my hand. Or maybe I am. But at least it answers back, you know. So shout out to everyone showing love. Huge thanks to @newschoolers for the nomination and everything you do for the culture. YOOOO!!! Ya girl just got nominated for “Trick Of The Year” in the @newschoolers awards for my wallie underflip onto the red ledge 🥳🥳 (I also got nominated for ✨Trick✨ of the Year in a completely different setting but that’s another story, thihi 😘) ℹ️ For those that don’t know, the red ledge is probably the most legendary spot for urban skiing, some of the dopest skiers in the game have laid down some amazing tricks on this big, steep, and gnarly ledge for the last 20 years. Since I first saw the ledge (probably 15 years ago in some old ski movie) I’ve been wanting to ski it. So the first day I stepped foot in Canada me and the crew went straight to the red ledge. Just being there, seeing it with my own eyes was a dream come true. On our way to the ledge, we randomly ran into the first person to ever grind the ledge 20 years ago, and he gave us his blessings. I was extremely jet-lagged and sleep-deprived (I can’t sleep in public spaces) and the whole experience felt surreal. I knew exactly what I wanted to do (unfortunately I had accidentally claimed it for the boys earlier 😅). I knew I had to put all my power and trust into the wallie and just pray it would launch me up the way I needed to get the flip around (you never really know how the wallie is gonna launch you in a flip until you tried it 😬). I was nervous-nervous, afterwards, @forstermeeks told me he thought I was playing around when I claimed I wanted to be the first person to flip onto the red ledge. I bust out a dry dad joke to calm my nerves with some comic relief, kinda worked 😂. So I’m extremely fukking hyped that I survived and that I managed to do what I fancied. And I feel very-very blessed and honored to be nominated for “Trick of the Year” together with some of the biggest and most legendary names in skiing 😌, all the other tricks are insane 😵‍💫!!! I just fukkin won best urban segment at @if3festival 🤯 daafuuk 😵‍💫😵‍💫 Can’t believe it! Childhood dream come true type shit 🫣🥹🍔 Last winter was my 17th winter filming street. Anybody who’s ever filmed street knows that it’s nothing you do for money, recognition or awards. BUUT, I gotta say it does feel pretty good to get some recognition for all the hard work me and the team put in. I’ve been thinking about some of the tricks I did for this movie pretty much every day since it happened, it was very special to show it here in Oslo last Friday, and I can’t wait to show this shit to the world 🎬🌍! Streetskiing is a team sport and you all play a major part in making this dream come true. Lastly, as a queer skier, I want to stress how fukked up proud I am to be able to put it on for all my queer shredders out there.
