The @cleanhub.io x CHPO case! Available online now!
@bluemadegreen was founded in 2021 by fashion designer Ratna Prabha Rajkumar, with a focus on reusing textile waste through upcycling. The business began with denim but today includes several types of fabrics that are transformed into bags, accessories, and home décor items.
The company, based in Kanhangad in Kerala, India, is run by four women along with part-time workers. Each month, around 200 kilos of textile waste are processed through washing, sorting, and reuse, with an almost zero-waste production process. The goal is to reduce waste, promote sustainable fashion, and create job opportunities for women.
Together with them, CHPO have been able to create sunglasses cases, with the proceeds supporting CleanHub’s work.

This workshop will be led by Ratna Prabha Rajkumar, Founder and Lead Designer of Bluemadegreen, a textile upcycling boutique.
Join this workshop to learn the art of upcycling textile waste.
Here, a customer chose to reuse her own old clothes to make a bedcover for her mattress. She sent us a few of her old nighties, kurtha and shirts and gave us the dimensions of her mattress. What you see in the video is the outcome.
Post consumer textile waste is a huge issue.
Upcycling old clothes is one of the ways to deal with it.
It is a choice one makes.
And your choice matters.
Reuse and upcycle as much as possible.

What happens to the clothes that are damaged in some areas, but the fabric is good? Instead of recycling it to yarn, you can get it upcycled to useful products.
Here, we made Christmas decorations with such clothes.

Last week, bluemadegreen was part of the roundtable at “Closing the Loop on Textile Waste” organized by @intellecap , @greenworms_ and @circularapparel
It was an insightful exchange where stakeholders came together to discuss the urgency of textile waste management.
We discussed the following:
- Handling of post-production as well as post-consumer textile waste
- Challenges faced by textile recyclers
- Pressing need to bridge the gap between textile manufacturing and recycling
- Importance of upcylcing.
We also had the opportunity to visit the Greenworms Textile Recovery Facility @kuppayam_gw to see firsthand how discarded fabrics are given a second life.
A big thank you to CAIF and Greenworms for having us! 💚

It was wonderful to demonstrate how we turn textile waste into durable, upcycled fabric products at the Textiles Committee Regional Office (Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India @texminindia ) in Kannur, Kerala, as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign.
Heartfelt thanks to Shri V. Palanichamy, Assistant Director of the Textiles Committee for inviting me. ♻💚
