🌊Parliamentary Screening of Blue Has No Borders🌊 Blue Has No Borders is a documentary filmed in Folkestone, directed by Jessi Gutch and produced by Charlie Phillips. The film explores social issues in Folkestone - what it means to be British and how our corner of the country has changed since we left the European Union. The Government's Community Cohesion strategy recognises the need for resilient and united communities in pursuit of a safer and stronger Britain. This includes starting a dialogue. So join me and the filmmakers for a discussion following the screening and share your thoughts about community, identity and how we can bring both the left and the right together. This event will be taking place in Westminster on Tuesday 28th April 7-9pm, link for tickets are in the bio #Folkestone #Hythe #RomneyMarsh #BlueHasNoBorders #CommunityCohesion

Another wonderful evening at @curzonclevedon . Screening of @bluehasnoborders directed by @jessi_gutch For me the film is a meditation on acceptance, inclusion, tolerance, the power of effective communication and the present political and socio economic climate of division and anger. It is beautifully made and addresses these issues with tenderness. After the film Jessi, Alison from @wearerens ,Susannah from @saricharity and Donna from @refswelcomens engaged in a Q and A about the film and the issues it explores. I also made a couple of portraits of director @jessi_gutch . šŸ™šŸ»šŸ•Š

🌊 WELSH PREMIERE THIS SUNDAY 22ND MARCH AT THE BIFA CINEMA OF THE YEAR, TYWYN'S MAGIC LANTERN šŸŽ‰ "Blue Has No Borders is a poetic hymn to the complexities of British life in the 2020s, playing out as an artist discovering her place and her relationship to her subjects, who are otherwise stereotyped or weaponised in polarising media discourse ... That this film manages to be both a sociological study and a deeply human pen portrait is remarkable. Go see it, when you can."

Blue Has No Borders tomorrow - Fri 20 Mar 7pm @curzonclevedon When I watch a film and immediately want to share it with as wide an audience as possible, I know it’s an important piece of work. This is that film. Director / Filmmaker @jessi_gutch made this documentary after moving to Folkestone - ā€˜the edge of England’ - a coastal town not too dissimilar to Clevedon, and with divisions flamed by a post-Brexit UK that reflects the polarisation across all of our communities. The film was finished just before we saw flags going up in towns and cities, an unwelcome surprise of the continued shock of just how much worse the artificially fuelled hatred can keep getting. Jessi follows 6 very different characters, from seemingly disparate backgrounds, as we follow a gentle journey that questions and listens and seeks compassion. I don’t want to spoil it - I want you to come and watch this with me, feel it, and to ask questions and take part in conversations afterwards. But, I will tell you that this documentary left me crying at the end, because I have become so unaccustomed to any glimmer of hope. In a world fuelled by hatred, witnessing scenes of unification and connection was more emotionally upsetting in its contrast to the current everyday, than the position of fight or flight that I’m so used to. I really, really, want you all to come and watch it - can you tell? This isn’t a plea for ticket sales. It’s a plea to anyone interested in a brighter future than the one we seem to be walking in to. It’s a plea to come and help work out how we get there, how we collectively make it to the final scene in Blue Has No Borders (you’ll have to come along to find out). It’s a plea to bring a long your Uncle Brexit, your a-political bestie, you’re friend who thinks their radical but doesn’t understand it’s all intersectional. It’s a plea to give me, us, them, hope that we can win with connection over polarisation. We need the win. Oh, and, the brilliant Bristol Defend Asylum Seekers Campaign @bdasc1 and the incredible team @saricharity have stalls. @jessi_gutch will be in Q&A with us after the film, alongside @wearerens @saricharity @refswelcomens

The entire Blue Has No Borders team is so saddened by the passing of Michael Laws, the father of @dita_garbo and whose contribution in the film was brave, vital and full of warmth and love. Midway through I realise that what is desperately needed is connecting over divides, rather than entrenching into our own positions further and missing the chance to realise we have more in common than capitalism, and the elites who benefit from that system, would like us to believe. Fisherman Michael and drag queen Dan/Dita’s willingness to have a difficult honest conversation was symbolic of this attempt to listen and understand each other, despite there having been pain that had come before. And for those who have not seen the film, I don’t want to ruin their ending but suffice to say the scene is one of the most moving of the entire film. A Dad taking a leap into the unknown, sitting with some discomfort in order to show love for his child - in all their full beautiful queerness. Rest in Peace Michael, we are so humbled to have you as part of the story of the film and its impact. ā™„ļø

If you’re losing hope over how we will bridge the division that’s being fuelled across the UK, or wondering what happened to our sense of community, then make this the film you come to see this Friday at @curzonclevedon After the screening we are joined by filmmaker Jessi Gutch for a conversation that encourages your input, chaired by @petra4mansour alongside panelists from @saricharity (Stand Against Racism and Inequality), @wearerens (Race Equality North Somerset), @theotherplacewsm & @refswelcomens (Refugees Welcome North Somerset).
