This semester was particularly difficult emotionally. And it’s still not over. It wasn’t even because of the work load, the schedule, or the making. It was because one authority figure chose to let white supremacy run rampant in the classroom and silenced those who tried to speak up. Not just silenced either, but is continuing to retaliate. I don’t know what they’ll do next, but it is weighing heavy on me. If you or someone you know is being academically retaliated against, just know that there are people who will help, even if you didn’t record or write anything down as proof, they will still help. This doesn’t mean I hate my grad experience, or that there is anything wrong with the program itself. The program I am in is FULL of incredibly thoughtful, wonderful people who are so endlessly trustworthy and helpful. I just happened to experience one person in power that is trying to actively harm me. Despite this, I am still deeply enjoying my overall experience in grad school.
Greetings everyone!
NOT Approved by the Comics Code Authority is on hiatus as we move into the summer. This gives me some time to work on the next iteration of this project, a group exhibition! More details coming soon!
I’m proud to say that NOT Approved interview series started in 2024 and has 20 published interviews. This seems like a good time to take a break and consider what the future holds.
In the meantime, have you read all 20 interviews?

This interview series is intended to provide conversational answers to a set of questions focusing on comics and how artists use the style and format in their work. While some interviews may feature comics creators, this interview series will also feature artists whose work is directly or indirectly influences by comics.
Thank you everyone for your interest in this project and in these artists!

I am now at the tail end of my second year in grad school at the University of Kansas. This experience has been incredibly meaningful and eye-opening for me. As I realize the urgency and significance as a biracial person exploring and connecting to my Mexican Heritage, it’s time for me to reach out and take a leap of faith in family, friendship, and community as I undergo this step that will change my trajectory forever. I’m done being scared, I’m done denying myself my own culture, and I’m done giving in to colonizer notions that have chopped off a part of my soul. It’s time to take it all back, nourish, learn, listen, and grow.

It’s important to use our privileges to stand up to white supremacy especially when it shows its face in shocking places, catching us off guard, disguised as academic critique, and veiled in silent permission.
Enormous thank you to one of the kindest people I know, Kincaid Denet @therealjeffbezos !!! I’ve learned so much from you about community and friendship!!!

Thinking about what the hate it my heart feels like and how I am sustaining it. I don’t know how to release it necessarily. There so many things I have no control over that I hate. So I make zines. While I carry all of this hate, I am also uplifted and energized by the love I feel from many directions. This love keeps me going through all the hate and the overwhelming love I feel is why I hate too. I hate the things that threaten that love.
