Photos from Blue Egg Lovechild at @lydgalleriet .
This narrative sound piece and poem imagines the creation of the world after lovers Day and Night accidentally break a small robin’s egg.
The environment plays the story's main characters, with aural and vocal elements moving across nine speakers to create highly sensory sonic-scapes which are equally salacious, wrathful and bright.
Presented as a live performance across two nights in April 2025 with @ferwenn . Costumes made by me 🌚
Thanks to @radiophreniaglasgow , @nordiskkulturfond (Globus Oppstart), Nordiska Konstförbundet and @elektronmusikstudion_ems for their support.
The project was previously presented at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (Glasgow), Centro de Cultura Digital (Mexico City), and Scenkonstmuséet (Stockholm).

I birthed twin snakes at midnight, then killed them. 🐍

7min act with two performers presented at midnight in @biblioforevers . Performance in the form of a ritual, celebrating a birth and funeral. Work inspired by raging snake deities and the idea of archeology as speculative fiction. Attire and setting include cotton robes, ceramic snakes, soil, candles, palo santo and an improvised gong.
Special thanks to Georgia for her interpretive gong playing and to Irak @irak.morales for inviting me to take part in Noche boca arriba. + @roberto__l__ochoa for the video.

Its Catalina @blcata with one last post dedicated to works that bring narrative elements to life through sculptural means.
Pic 1—Costumed performance in collab w/ Guillaume Brisson-Darveau @gu1ll4um3bd at @chela.exacta (Buenos Aires, Arg 2018). Guillaume’s incredible futuristic helmets inspired me to think about how sculpture could give body to the characters in my writing. This was also my first involvement with costume making. The performance is scored to a digitally processed recording of my voice over soundscape elements.
Pic 2— Blue Egg Lovechild (2023) is a narrative sound piece imagining the creation of the world after lovers Day and Night accidentally break a small robin’s egg. @ferwenn and I performed @radiophreniaglasgow using art-nouveau inspired celestial costumes. Here, aural and vocal elements moved across 4 speakers, creating highly sensory sonic environments that brought to life physical & emotional landscapes.
Pic 3 —Madre Perla (2023) @SalonAcme Two ceramic conch shells whisper a story about a woman who embarks on a hallucinatory journey through watery and desert landscapes after falling asleep in the bath. Making these conches led to my recent obsession with clay.
Pic 4 — Madre Perla, performance (2023)
This time, instead of the shells whispering my poem, I read the text over an altar of sand. The voice describes both a dreamscape and a cleansing ritual. I used my ceramic sculptures as containers for water, rose petals and essential oils + other symbolic elements placed. The reading was activated via performative actions such as drawing a circle over my eye with red ink and bathing myself in with ‘blessed’ water.

Hello, this is Catalina Barroso-Luque @blcata taking over GSS’s insta for the week.
About me … I am from outside Mexico City and work in multiple mediums. My work consists of creating stories inhabited by voices, texts, images, bodies and objects. I also write in English and Spanish. I’ve been a GSS member since 2016 after receiving the GSS MFA Graduate Fellowship award that year. Since 2021, I’ve been working between Mexico City (MX) and Glasgow (UK).
I will be dedicating this week-long take-over to the sculptural aspects of my practice.
Pic 1 – Black silicon audio-sculptures which resemble body organs and contain internal audio devices for the audience to connect onto. Each sculpture played a recorded poem which was recursive in nature. The voice recordings utilise onomatopoeic tropes and theatrical procedures to inflect sharply punctuated texts, allowing words and sentences to repeat and mutate.
Pic 2 — Detail of silicon sculpture. I’ve included this work because it was produced as part of my fellowship at GSS and set a precedent for pieces which I’ve recently produced.
You can listen to excerpts of the recordings here:
