Stephen O’Malley is a guitarist, producer, composer, and visual artist who has conceptualized and participated in numerous drone and experimental music groups for over two decades – SUNN O))), KTL, and Khanate being among his best-known creations. Wildly prolific, O’Malley’s oeuvre is defined by its remarkable breadth, complexity and multidisciplinary interests. It includes collaborations with a wide range of experimental artists, including Scott Walker, Kali Malone, Alvin Lucier, choreographer Gisèle Vienne, the authors Dennis Cooper and Alan Moore, Peter Rehberg, Fujiko Nakaya, Jim Jarmusch, Johan Johansson, experimental music research centers IRCAM, INA-GRM (Paris), EMS (Stockholm) and many others. O’Malley is also a vigorous live performer and has toured around the world since 2000. His live performances feature a reverberating fog of electric guitar minimalism – sorcery that challenges boundaries of space and time.

Lars Lundehave Hansen (DK) works with sound as an artistic material and a central element in his works. With more than 25 years of experience as a composer and sound artist, he has distinguished himself as one of the country’s visionary pioneers in the field. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, Lundehave Hansen has received awards both nationally and internationally. In 2021, the very special publication 20 Years of Sound Art was published, which collected and documented a number of the highlights of his extensive production. The physical and technical experiments are central to Lars Lundehave Hansen’s productions – including in the concrete visualizations of sound, which point back to some of the pioneers of sound art in their ambition to unite the sculptural with the instrumental. “The relationship between work and sound work has been a central dynamic throughout my production. While in the beginning it was the sound itself and its dynamics that I concentrated on shaping as works of art in themselves, over time I have moved towards something else – namely works of art that are experienced as sound. This distinction has been an important consideration along the way,” says Lars Lundehave Hansen. Lundehave Hansen has performed all over the world and has a long list of commissions, collaborations, exhibitions and releases to his name. Photo by Kim Wendt

Artist highlight: EMS Showcase - Marieke van de Ven & Das kleine Bergbauensemble (Live) We are proud to again collaborate with Elektronmusikstudion EMS - the national centre for Swedish electroacoustic music and sound art. This year we present two exciting performances investigating spontaneity, subtlety, and surroundings. Marieke van de Ven creates electro-acoustic compositions, sound walks, podcasts and audio stories. Within the stratification of music, text, interviews, and field recordings, Marieke explores the relationship between sound and storytelling. Inspired by the sounds surrounding us, she investigates the musicality and narratives formed by nature and urban sound environments. She combines realistic and imaginary sounds to create an immersive spatial listening experience.  Das kleine Bergbauensemble is a temporary constellation formed out of EMS consisting of Mercedes Krapovickas, Mats Lindström and Youmna Saba. This will be our first encounter  as a trio and with just one rehearsal there will probably be some tension and unexpected moments during a three hour late night session.  A collaboration with EMS Elektronmusikstudion with support from Nordic Culture Point  ~~~~~ Norbergfestival 2026 July 9-11 Norberg, Sweden

Esme Rebora is a Berlin-based experimental noise musician, composer, sound and visual artist, mainly operating the moniker Bride. Their work constructs allegorical tales within harsh and dissonant environments enchanting terror and warmth in chorus, focusing on controlled feedback and crushed compositions. They are interested by a harrowing exploration of the allure of the uncanny that continues to take shape both through their solo productions and collaborations. Rebora’s work has been highlighted by labels Psychic Liberation, Post Hoc, Industrial Coast and Longform Editions.

Jair-Rohm Parker Wells is an American bassist, Chapman Stickist, composer, and producer whose work bridges avant-garde improvisation, electroacoustic composition, and jazz innovation. During his residency in April Jair-Rohm beta tested our recently re-designed Studio 7. We are happy to see him back in the studio in May! The new Studio 7 has been equipped with sound generating test equipment both from the original Klangverkstaden at EMS as well as pieces acquired by from various generous donors, and will offer the opportunity to explore modes of working with a hands-on apporach from the early days of electroacoustic music compositions. The new studio will open to full capacity after the summer holidays. Photo: Henrik Jonsson, EMS #klangverkstan #emsstudio7

āññā Duo is an interdisciplinary performative duo formed by multimedia artists Dr. Anqi Liu and Han Zhang. Their performances investigate cross-sensory perception and relational listening through DIY instrument design, including biosignal and sensor-based systems, paired with live audiovisual processes. Their work is not merely a collaboration, but a continuous merging of lives, thoughts, and psyches—an evolving dreamscape where creative boundaries dissolve and reassemble in perpetual transformation. Recent activities include the BROILER Artistic Residency with Oracle Egg (Los Angeles), where they developed a DIY biosignal instrument within an interactive performative installation, and the Visiting Artist Scholar Designer Residency at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (Denver), centered on a DIY sensor-based interactive system. They also presented an experimental laser and sensor live show at the Dogstar Orchestra Festival (Los Angeles), which New Classic LA described as challenging perceptions of free will. They are also invited to the Every Woman Biennale (New York) in 2026. They are currently releasing an experimental film with Music For Your Inbox (Los Angeles), and their debut album is in progress.

Denis Lecoeuche, a.k.a. Transient Cat, is a composer and sound artist based in Paris, France. His work lies at a crossroads between noise, drone, concrete and experimental music, with improvisation and serendipity at the core of his practice, as well as the willingness to treat any kind of sound material as legitimate and worth being polished, deconstructed, or destroyed. He co-founded Editions1OF1, a label publishing experimental music and unique objects limited-to-1-copy, where he released several solo and collaborative works. He studied Machine Learning at École Centrale de Lyon and holds a Master’s degree in Sonic Arts from INA GRM & Univ. Gustave Eiffel. He recently participated in residencies at CTM Festival (DE) and EMS (SE). His piece “Bounce and Fall” was released on raster’s “soundtrack europe 2025” compilation. During his residency at EMS, he will deepen his experimentations merging DIY neural audio synthesis (i.e. machine learning-based sound synthesis) with old-school analog synthesizers, and will work on new multi-channel compositions. The residency is an initiative supported by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Institut français, as part of the strategy to promote the international export of Cultural and Creative Industries.
