Zine publication, graphic elements, and printed matter for the 22nd edition of Ekko, an electronic and experimental music festival in Bergen, Norway.
Since 2003, Ekko Festival has wandered through church halls, galleries, clubs, mountains, forests, and bunkers—always in search of new spaces, new expressions, and new sounds. Whether large or small, the festival has remained a living experiment, closely tied to the city, its people, and the present moment.
The Ekko visual identity is the result of a long-standing, ongoing collaboration.

A few years back, we designed a publication for Joy Forum, an independent exhibition space and artist collective founded by students, artists, and staff at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design (KMD) in Bergen. The book archives the collective’s projects and activities, offering fragmentary notes, memories, and reflections from a collaborative project during a period of institutional change.
Joy Forum was built from recycled materials in the reception area of the school, conceived as a vehicle to explore and react to new institutional frameworks that emerged when moving into a brand-new building, and in the merger of the former, autonomous art school (KHiB) with the University.
Edited by Sveinung R. Unneland, the book features contributions from Rosa Marie Frang, Ane Hjort Guttu, Brandon LaBelle, Ola Innsett, Stephan Dillemuth, Arne Skaug Olsen, Eamon O’Kane, Skade Henriksen, Susanna Antonsson, Marie Vallestad, Sara Bo Lindberg, Laus Østergaard, Mathijs van Geest, Gard Frantzsen, and Matias Grøttum. Mondo is proud to present our newest publication: Blok P by @carstenaniksdal and @tonehuse , with contributing texts by Nicolas Norton and Inge Bisgaard. Designed by Kaja Krakowian and Petri Henriksson at @blankblank_studio and edited by @tanyabusse The book is bilingual in English and Kalaallisut. Available at Mondo Books and NordNorsk Kunstmuseum (with more point of sales to come in the Oslo area) 💙
Blok P is a visual and textual descent from bird’s-eye to demolition dust: it begins with the tearing down of Nuuk’s most iconic housing block that once stood in the middle of town, about everyday joys and the richness of children playing in the hallways, but also about Nordic colonialism - about how it has shaped and continues to shape everyday life, urban landscapes and relationships between people.
Big thank you to UrbTrans at UiT, Tromsø Research Foundation, the Research Council, the Norwegian Non-Fiction Writers and Translators Association - NFFO, the Fritt Ord Foundation, the Norwegian Arts Council and Nofofo for the support 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤

About
Oulu Music Video Festival (OMVF)
The Oulu Music Video Festival is the world’s oldest music video festival and has taken place annually since 1994 in the northern Finnish city of Oulu, every year at the end of August. Now celebrating its 33rd edition, the festival presents a diverse program of music video and film screenings, masterclasses, art exhibitions, audiovisual afterparties, and more.
For over three decades, OMVF has been a central hub for Finnish music video culture and today serves as the custodian of the world’s largest archive of Finnish music videos.
For this event, OMVF’s executive director, Juhani Oivo, has curated an hour-long selection of rare works from the archive, ranging from the modern audiovisual underground to grainy ’90s obscurities—alongside lesser-known contemporary works by a wide range of artists.
In 2026, OMVF launches its first European competition, the OMVF European Music Video Competition, open to music video makers living or working in Europe. Submissions are open. filmfreeway.com/omvf
OMVF is part of the Oulu European Capital of Culture programme.
Sähkö the Movie
A rare documentary about Finland's Sähkö Recordings directed by Jimi Tenor. It's 44 minutes long and features a wide variety of artists from the label, including Mono Junk and founders Mika Vainio and Tommi Grönlund. It also features scenes of Vainio and others pressing records and making music on their own custom-built equipment. The film, officially untitled but known to fans as Sähkö The Movie, was only ever released on VHS in limited qualities by record label Blast First Petite.

✨ An old Space with a New Soul ✨ Welcome to Urtegata 36 — the heart of Gråbeinkvartalet. This block was built as workers’ housing in the late 1800s by the builder Ole Olsen, known as “Gråbein.”
Urtegata 36 was completed in 1885, the first of the brick tenements in Gråbeinkvartalet Originally, the complex consisted of hundreds of tiny one-room-and-kitchen apartments built for working-class families in what was then Kristiania.
Oskar Braaten’s novel Ulvehiet (“The Wolf’s Den”) depicts life in the very same Gråbeinkvartalet around Urtegata, capturing the atmosphere of the brick tenements that still stand here today. Over time, the name “Gråbein” has shifted from a stigma to something now widely recognized, as the neighbourhood’s history has been rediscovered and restored.
This shop space has its own long and grounded story. From 1917 until around 1960, it was Aagot Aaneby’s shop, Meieribolagets varer, where she sold dairy products and everyday necessities to the neighbourhood. Aagot lived in the same building for almost her entire life, and her little shop became a familiar anchor for generations of locals.
In later years, the space has been home to a Pakistani bookshop, an architecture office, and, since the 2020s, Blank Blank Studio. We’ve hosted exhibitions, gatherings, reading rooms, organized concerts, and served Mexican feast on the street. And there will be much more to come.

The new book of Toril Johannessen, Deterrence and Reassurance, produced in connection with her 2024 Festival Exhibition of the same title at Bergen Kunsthall, looks into how language and landscape bear the traces of historical and ongoing power politics.
In the exhibition, Johannessen transformed the spaces into an arena where military presence, borders, and geopolitics intersected with everyday life. Visitors walked barefoot on woven carpets made of discarded military materials, read maps that blended security zones with local knowledge, and encountered the traces of power politics in language and landscape.
Blank Blank Studio designed the publication, layering projects and processes into one cohesive piece. The book consists of new texts by Hanne Hammer Stien, Philippe Rekacewicz, and Ingeborg Hjorth, which explore the historical, military, and cartographic dimensions of the project, alongside Johannessen’s own notes and photographs from the process, interwoven throughout the essays.

In 2023, we were invited to dig into the photographic archives of Jon Benjamin Tallerås. From the margins of the city to the margins of the book, Fotnoter (Footnotes) explores Oslo through Tailerås’ subjective, yet distinctly indexical photographic practice. It reimagines his exhibition work as a carefully designed publication and includes a new essay where the artist reflects on urban development and the importance of critically engaging with the city through art and direct interaction.
19 × 26 cm, 240 pages. Offset print. Edition of 300. Published by Multiples Forlag. Edited by Arne Skaug Olsen. Essay by Jon Benjamin Tallerås. Designed by Blank Blank Studio / Petri Henriksson with @sandrastokka
