DISCO CUMBIA
Fox & I were married last spring in West Texas so this year we threw a huge bash in Dallas for all of our family and friends to celebrate one full (GLORIOUS!) year of marriage together. It was a small ceremony, followed by hours of dancing to Disco and Cumbia under the skyline. My feet hurt from dancing and my face hurt from smiling.
Thank you to each and every friend and family member for attending, being surrounded in a circle by all of y’all was deeply impactful. My closest loved ones, many cousins and old friends I don’t often get to see, as well as all of Fox’s family who is now becoming my family - all together in one big room uplifting our queer Texas love is a feeling like no other. The memory of y’all in the circle is palpable, your love so intense it was no longer abstract, it was tangible. Fox & I are able to love so deeply because we are loved so deeply by those around us.
Thank you to my parents who encouraged us to have this party. Thank you to Lauren Balbous for her poetic words leading the ceremony. Thank you to
@jessicasmirror @hexxxgf and Camille Santry for being at our side and wrapping us in the 28 foot lariat which was hand-crafted by
@susanmcstea constructed of meaningful fabric scraps and memories. Thank you to
@urdoingfinejhinds who captured the night on film, his vision and talent will live in my memories forever. Thank you to
@seconds1st &
