Happy Mother’s day and aroha to everyone who is a mum, be it in the “traditional” sense, the mother of furr babies, the nurturers, the caregivers, the self motherers.
Jen is the powerhouse wahine behind @thegentleartcompany I so wish we had this service available when my mum was diagnosed with dementia and wasn’t allowed to drive anymore. Isolation and loneliness are the enemy of our brains! It’s so important to keep our creative juices flowing and DOING is the best medicine. Please check out her page…She is doing a fabulous cuff workshop soon, but also her day to day work in this space is so wonderful. #fuckdementia #justcreate #athomeartpractice
This little cluster of Black Pixie goodies represents the relationship from customer to much treasured friend that has occured between myself and the owner of this little collection. Ive met some beautiful souls through my work, made some life long friends and have a couple of great overseas “penpals”. So bloody blessed by it all. That is all.
Lola fully appreciates what open studios entails, having had some VERY rushed walks (gallops) around the block while I beavered away at the body of work. I told her it was worth sacrificing her longer more leisurely walks, as we’ve had the most amazing weekend at @eightyeightputiki Thank you so much to everyone who came to see us and my work at the gallery, you are all bloomin awesome.
Garden of Whimsy is one of four Mary themed pieces I’ve done recently. I’m not religious in the traditional sense but Mary remains an important figure in my life as she represents strength while also bringing a soft, nurturing, feminine energy. She celebrates women in their roles as mothers to all living things. Not just traditional motherhood, but ALL the things we care for, love and nurture come under this magical energy. She is currently hanging at @eightyeightputiki where she’ll stay until someone decides to make her their own. Dm me or the gallery for details if you’re interested, we are happy to ship outside of Whanganui. #openstudios.whanganui
“The clothes she wore” is one of a series of four Mary themed works I’ve done for @openstudios.whanganui These pieces celebrate feminine energy and what women bring to the table. God knows what sort of state we’d been in without the ladies is all@I can say….:
This post is part confession of how messy my creative process is, and part proof that not all Instagram posts are pretty, here is the current state of my workroom…this does not capture the absolute carnage taking place on the kitchen table and let’s not even mention the sewing room, which is a whole other level of fresh hell…
