✨ It’s been a while 😬…
The past several months have been a time of deep reflection, recalibration, and quiet growth behind the scenes. Today, we’re honored to share a special announcement from the heart:
The Black Iris Project, in proud partnership with 651 ARTS, is returning to Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday, July 26, 2025 for a one-night-only performance of “A Mother’s Rite” at the historic Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs.
This poignant ballet—performed by former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater soloist Fana Tesfagiorgis—explores the raw grief of a Black mother who has lost her son to police brutality. Developed in part during our 2018 residency at Vineyard Arts Project, this homecoming performance speaks to the soul of the Black community and honors the beauty, pain, and resilience of Black life.
🎟️ Tickets available now at blackirisproject.org/mv2025 (or visit the link in our bio)

The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) has documented more than 4,400 racial terror lynchings in twelve Southern states between Reconstruction and World War II, in one of the most comprehensive investigations to date. Lynching profoundly impacted race relations in the United States, fueling mass migration from the South and creating a fearful environment where racial subordination and segregation was maintained for decades. In an effort to involve people more deeply in this process of recovery and reconciliation, MASS Design Group designed the process of soil collection, through which members of EJI would join members of the community in collecting soil from the sites where each of these lynchings took place. The soil collection process created space for communities to confront this history by becoming active participants in the commemoration of life unjustly taken.

JM: It’s officially Climate Week in NYC! And I’m honored to share a bit of my voice and visions within a panel discussion with @theclimategroup tomorrow, Tuesday, September 24th. This particular event is a private one but a recording of the discussion will be released in the days following. I’ll share the link when I have it.
Climate Week NYC is the largest annual climate event of its kind, bringing together over 600 events and activities across the City of New York, to push the needle on climate action and justice. Each year, business leaders, political change makers, local decision takers and civil society representatives of all ages and backgrounds, from all over the world, gather to drive the transition, speed up progress, and champion change that is already happening.
Visit climateweeknyc.org to learn more about how you can get involved and attend some of the many citywide events addressing climate change. And stay tuned for information about a special BIP screening taking place at the end of the week. 😉
