I’m grateful to have the chance to attend the #ZoraNealeHuston Festival. Over the years, the academic committee for the festival has done much to surface the vital intellectual conversation inspired by Hurston that takes place every year. Having worked on this committee, I know how much care is taken to build bridges to the many public’s inspired by Hurston. The current cycle focused on placemaking. I’m sure the conversations that will happen here will matter to many. I’m inspired how Dr Deborah Plant is framing place and the legacy of visioning and place-making represented by Eatonville. @officialzorafestival@zorafestival@scot_french@msumuseum@msucal@msuenglish@sacrph
Detroit youth created techno in the 1980s, rejecting the narrative of Detroit as a city in industrial decline.

Sunni Patterson has been a living breathing griot during @umojaedu event. She crafts her verse based on what is happening around her. She is amazing. #umojaXXI #UmojaCon2025 @msuenglish@msucal@msumuseum
The Heroes in Contemporary Popular Culture has been a jammed packed conference. We are presenting and in discussion from 9 to 5, but we do get a chance to wander through Montreal at night. #academiclife
My thanks to the organizers of the Heroes in Contemporary Popular Culture conference. My keynote presentation gave me a chance to think about the ideological potential of the black superhero. My final point, that I think scholars can do more to explore independent creators and the black superhero is something I hope will be taken up. I am not the first person to say it, but I think the moment demand of means of thinking about imagination with an eye toward liberation. I am grateful to the professors and graduate students at @concordiauniversity and @mcgillu for organizing such a great conference. @msumuseum@msucal@msuenglish@msugraphicnovels@msu_aegs #comics @johnjenningsart@avilonny@dieselfunk
