Little Lizzy Murrill
A Louisiana white girl
Her daddy was doctor
Who took her round the world
She had an academic mama
Lafayette Elite
Into the 8th generation
Lizzy came to be
An educated rich girl
Who later studied law
She was queen Evangeline
At the Cajun Mardi Gras
Calvin was a black boy
Born in New Orleans
Raised up in Desire
With nothin but a dream
His mama died young
Leaving him alone
With his little sister
Looking for a home
At the age of fourteen
He was picked up by the blue
For shop lifting clothes
For the first day of school
In 1981
There was a murder in Treme
Calvin was accused
And later locked away
Calvin swore his innocence
The evidence was flawed
But for 28 years
He was stuck behind walls
But Calvin learned the law
From behind those bars
He helped his brother man
Always free of charge
When Calvin was released
An exonerated man
He earned a law degree
Dedicated to a plan
He ran for Parish Clerk
and was the people’s choice
With a simple message
The accused deserve a voice
Now privileged Lizzy Murrill
Rose up in the state
To become Attorney General
On a platform of hate
Little black boys
In Little Lizzy’s mind
Should always live in fear
And always stay in line
Calvin Duncan’s story
Is one she can’t abide
A freed black man
Mixing with her kind
Calvin won’t back down
He’s met with worse before
Lizzy fights beside the devil
Calvin sits beside the Lord
