As ravers, DJs, musicians, collectives and venues in Scotland we are committed to the liberation of Palestine. We today affirm our commitment to a total international boycott of state-funded German venues such as Berghain, due to their censorship of pro-Palestine artists and displays of cultural repression. In addition to this, we affirm our commitment to ensure our platforms continue the calls for a permanent ceasefire and share information on local protests and calls to action, as well as keeping informed on the complicity of the government and members of the nightlife community in the UK.
In the name of fighting colonialism, genocide, racism and antisemitism, we urge all international musicians—especially those with privilege and significant platforms—to stand with your peers, respect the picket line, and demonstrate real solidarity. The musicians and artists who have so far stood up to participate in the strike are disproportionately BIPOC, Jewish, queer and from the diasporas of the global South. These groups are also overwhelmingly the target of Germany’s cultural censorship.
We insist that nightlife is a space of liberation, inextricable from the ongoing global struggle against imperialism and colonialism. If music venues in Scotland do not now publicly stand against the attempted erasure and extermination of Palestinians, their advocacy in support of social justice causes is hollow and their claims to embody dissidence, liberation and resistance are forever void.
Cultural boycotts have an impact.
Respect the strike.
