TWO YEARS!!🎉🎉🎉🎉 Two whole years since we premiered Birth Time: the documentary in Sydney on February 11th 2021. Since then it has journeyed far and wide, into cinemas, halls, lecture theatres and living rooms world wide. The ripple effect of this film still blows us away… from such a tiny seed shared by four women, this film continues to educate and change perspectives in all parts of the world. We cannot thank you all enough for sharing this journey with us… and it’s not over. We must remember that every day, someone else is falling pregnant, another soon-to-be medical professional is embarking on their obstetric or midwifery journey, an experienced birth worker is ready to re-educate themselves and reprogram the way they work to a more respectful and trusting way. We must keep sharing, and showing that there is a different way. A different way that lays the path for women, parents and babies to come out of their birthing journeys feeling physically well, and emotionally safe. To celebrate this milestone we would love to hear where you are from in the world, and how this film has impacted your journey. Please share this trailer far and wide… and help us get this film in front of all the people who would benefit from seeing it. It can be viewed from our website- www.birthtime.world (link in bio). At our 5 Year Celebration Screening a couple of weeks back, during the discussion afterwards the possibility of screening Birth Time: the documentary at schools came up, and we shared that there is one bold and brave year 10 teacher at a high school who has been showing our film to her class every year for the past 4 years, and every year she sends us feedback on the students thoughts. This feedback came through last week from this years cohort. It would be easy to think our documentary might be too much for teenagers, but we believe these words prove that we must not underestimate their ability to comprehend and process such concepts. Many people over the years have suggested Birth Time would be great to get into school curriculums, and we couldn’t agree more. We even have a condensed 55 minute version of the film that may suit an education context better. We are working at putting together education options for the film- and we would love to hear your thoughts below about the possibility of sharing the film in schools. Also, please reach out if your school might be interested in exploring this. Thank you to this beautiful teacher for advocating for her students to watch the film, and for providing these lucky students with such potent information at such a formative time. Happy International Day of the Midwife 2026! The theme this year is One Million More Midwives. We believe to achieve this- to have midwives training and STAYING in the profession, they need solid support systems, greater mentorship, better pay, and sustainable working conditions. We are working on some things behind the scenes at Birth Time: the Village to support student midwives- to educate them in the full scope of practice INCLUDING homebirth, to receive mentorship from experienced endorsed midwives, and to gain genuine knowledge of physiological birth and continuity of midwifery care. To all the midwives out there supporting families in their journey of bringing their babies earthside, thank you for the work you do day, and night, on birthdays, holidays and weekends. We need more of you. Love, the Birth Time Team #idm2026 #midwives #midwiferycare #internationaldayofthemidwife

Birth Time: the documentary, five year celebration screening!! Tuesday evening was glorious! We filled our Village with old friends and new, watched the documentary and followed it up with hearty conversation about what had happened since the films release, and what is ahead of us. Thanks to all the gorgeous people who came and made this milestone so special. One conclusion we came to is that we all must keep moving forward, making whatever small or grande differences we can on our own patch, to better the birth landscape for women, babies and families. As we say about the cicadas, on our own we can feel helpless, but together we can be deafening. ENDORSED MIDWIFE SHARED CARE. We have been working away behind the scenes and our new Endorsed Midwife shared care clinic is well and truely up and running. We have been working closely with Simone Payn Principal Midwifery Manager Sydney Local Health District and her wonderful team at RPA and together we have created an operational plan that guides collaborative care between the endorsed midwives and RPA. This is a BULK BILLED service where women planning to give birth in hospital can access free pregnancy and postnatal midwifery care (from 4 weeks pregnant to 8 weeks postpartum) in the beautiful surrounds of Birth Time: the village, with the same midwife throughout. Endorsed midwife Beth Newman is the first midwife providing this care at The Village. The Sun Herald covered the story as this collaborative model is the first of its kind in NSW. Thank you to the wonderful team at RPA who see and support the importance of innovative models of midwifery care. Imagine an Endorsed Midwifery clinic on a corner of every suburb where women birthing in hospital can access free endorsed midwife care in their community! When a woman finds out she’s pregnant, she’s calls the midwife! It’s the way of the future! To book an appointment head to our website or follow the link in our bio x

Not long now! Tuesday 28th we will gather at Birth Time: the village to celebrate 5 years since the release of our documentary. The memory of that night- and all the premiere screenings that followed- are memories so close to hearts and a time we treasure deeply. What followed was a flood of messages from women telling us that watching the film had changed the course of their births for the better, as well as birth professionals finding the courage make changes to their work to better the experience both for themselves, and the women they were caring for. Our deepest desire is for the film to keep making this kind of impact. It is as relevant now as it ever was. So come along. Bring your pregnant clients, friends, midwives, doulas, obstetricians (!) and experience the power of this film when people gather. Jo, Zoe and Jerusha will be there (Selina would be too if she wasn’t overseas!) for all the post screening conversations. So grab your tickets before we sell out, and we’ll see you there. Birth Time congratulates Donna Garland on her appointment as the inaugural NSW Chief Midwife! This role was one of the key recommendations to come out of the NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into Birth Trauma, and has been created to provide midwifery leadership and to advance maternity care for women and families across NSW. We interviewed Donna back in 2019 for Birth Time: the documentary when she held the position of Operations Director, Women’s and Newborn Health at Westmead Hospital, where her aim was for every woman to have a named midwife. In the ACM press release Donna said, “I look forward to working closely with midwives across the state to strengthen midwifery practice, support workforce development, and ensure women and families receive safe, high-quality, evidence-based care.” Congratulations Donna! #itstime #birthtime #nswchiefmidwife
