The Hunt I Witnessed 🦅
One of those unforgettable moments in the wild.
A Brahminy Kite was circling high above the water when suddenly it folded its wings and dropped like an arrow. Within seconds it rose again — a fish tightly gripped in its talons.
The kite flew to the top of a cut coconut tree, paused for a moment to scan its surroundings, and then began feeding.
Watching this entire sequence unfold right in front of me was incredible. From the dive to the catch to the quiet moment before the meal — nature’s precision at work.
Moments like this remind me why patience in wildlife photography always pays off.

I had the privilege to lead a bird walk with BLR Birders at Upper Ambalipura Lake, a small urban habitat that continues to surprise.
Within a perimeter stretch of less than one kilometer, we observed fifty diverse species. Highlights included the dreamy Indian Paradise Flycatcher, a flowerpecker demonstrating its unique feeding behaviour, and an interesting interaction between a Lapwing and our national bird.
However, the real highlight was the people.
From young grade 4 & 5 students eager to learn and explore, to senior participants deeply connected with nature, the walk brought together a diverse group bound by a shared sense of curiosity.
Experiences like these highlight the importance of urban biodiversity and community engagement. They remind us that conservation begins with awareness, and awareness begins with simply stepping out and observing.
Kudos to BLR Birders for creating such a blissful community.

You’ve seen the male, now meet the lady! It’s interesting how in the bird world, the females are often more "plain" compared to the males. It probably gives them that extra bit of camouflage they need to protect themselves while they're out in the open fields. Just a thought!
In the first slide, this Pied Bushchat is actually swallowing a small baby mouse. I just thought they ate insects, never knew they were carnivores too!
