I’ve been a Gina Gionfriddo super fan since I saw US Drag in 2007. She has been a playwriting inspiration to me since I first moved to New York and worked for her agent. Her plays are smart, funny, deep and unafraid to look at humanity without guardrails. She’s also a beautiful, generous person. I am so thrilled BECKY SHAW is finally having its Broadway run and that I snuck my way into the opening (just like I did back in the day when it first premiered at 2ST). Congrats Gina! You are an icon. ⭐️
In 2010 I had my first ever Hollywood meeting as a writer, no pressure it was w/ MPK 😳 He had two costumes in his bungalow - Carrie’s tutu and Valerie’s tracksuit - I lost my shit when I saw Aunt Sassy - and asked the one and only MPK to take a picture of me with it ! At our meeting. He loved that I wanted the pic with Aunt Sassy and not Carrie. (The Comeback was still pretty cult back then). Not anymore!! Welcome Back Valerie ! Everyone in the USA is an immigrant with the exception of the Native population (whom ICE is also targeting) and the enslaved people, brought here against their will, whose descendants have been brutalized and mistreated for centuries.
I do not know what to do. The things that feel within my control are talking to my community, calling my reps, donating money, attempting to stay informed, keeping my older son informed (within reason), and trying to be a good neighbor. There is too much that feels out of our control.
We must reject Fascism. It is deeply sad and scary that this is an opinion not shared by all.
