indigenous resilience and excellence on this day. my ancestors and family’s resilience, strength, and survival has afforded me so many things in life. from life itself, to being able to live and grow on our homeland, to being able to tell stories from my very land to help sharing stories from other parts of turtle island that my very ancestors never got to see. i have met people and seen places that only shown me resilience from others who have experienced what my family has. their sacrifices have afforded me so much in my life, i only hope to continue that resilience through the work that i am so privileged to do. the people and places in these photos and videos have fed my spirit in ways that i am still trying to digest. we are still here and we are thriving. they have not killed is off. we are growing stronger with each passing season.

Under The Arbor (2025, Dir. Hayley Morin) Last summer @mack.stannard and I set out to capture and share one of my people’s most honoured and celebrated ceremonies, powwow. As a nehiyaw from treaty 6, I was privileged enough to grow up around the some of the best drums and witness generations of champion dancers and singers. My late uncle, Romero Waskahat, introduced the magic of the drum to my family and I was fortunate enough to dance a bit of women’s traditional when I was a young girl. Powwow has given me so much and this project has only tripled that. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who had a hand in this film. From the crew members who endured 3 powwows in 5 weeks, to the drummers and dancers who welcomed us into their worlds, to the @cbc who believed in this story from the first meeting. Hiy Hiy for helping me with my most prized project yet. Under The Arbor will be available to stream for free on @cbcgem starting August 15th, 2025! We would absolutely love if you joined us. 🧡🪶💃🏽

i have so many things to say but most of it feels like it can’t be put into words. I’m just so insanely proud of this team and my heart is overflowing. in just 6 short weeks, it feels like we have done something that will be felt for decades to come. the youth in this film are everything and more i want the youth in our homes to have to look up to. i’m telling you guys, these are some really REALLY great kids and this film is gonna change the world. stay on your fckin feet and smudge the blades. skoden, stoodis, aho and wicihitowin 🧡
