In stead of sitting behind the mixing desk at @lordagsjazz in Ski with some of these people on stage, it was great sitting among the audience with nothing to do but enjoying the beautiful sounds from @kingclarinet and @itsangelagrey with a stellar band, at Club Gustav in Oslo.🤘🤘 Check ‘em out if you get the chance!

Christmas Eve is just around the corner. The Christmas spirit isn’t exactly hoovering over me this year despite the unhealthy number of Christmas concerts I have worked at, but I did get a lovely surprise after I clocked out of work the final time for the year. I got the gift of an improvised little concert with members from the fantastic and highly skilled @oslokoret outside the local pub in my neighborhood. I can’t think of a better way to start a Christmas vacation. They let me film and post it, so please enjoy if you want to see the coolest Christmas performance I saw this year. And follow these amazing talents on Oslokoret’s socials. Merry Christmas, everyone. May it be a good one🌹🎅

Out of a little bit of necessity but mostly out of curiosity and sheer joy I started playing around with notation again. This was the first language I learned in music so it has been fun going back to it. I spent a few days in my childhood home while trying to get to grips with the software and started this little melody. It is not the most unique melody ever written, nor the most exciting, but I finished it during a sleepless night. And I have sheets for all of it! Hah! I call it a damn success! Anyway, it will never be published I assume, but here it is if you want to hear it. I called it a “dance” because I have no idea what else this is. But I am sure, tho I am no expert, you can dance to it. If you or someone you know ever dance to it, please send me a video😊 It is an ode to the street where one grows up. I grew up in Symreveien, hence the name and why it doesn’t quite make sense. And I guess that in English the street I grew up on would be called Anemone Street. So There. #norway #notation #dorico #strings #music #dance #growinguptoofast😢 #homemade #orchestral #newmusic

The Magic Cello from @rokr_official with my personal touch. Lots of fun to build, even more fun to paint. Thought I’d give it a bit of a steampunk vibe since it has all those gears. I used some hobby paints, lacquer and fountain pen inks for the staining. The kit was a gift from my dear sister. #woodwork #rokr #cello #model #playbox #nocturne #diamineink @panduroofficial #modelkit #magic

Yeah yeah, great year for me personally. I know good people. Have great people in my family. I have had good times. Seen relatives. Made new friends. Kept in touch with old ones. Paid my bills. Saved some money. Never really been hungry. Never had to sleep outdoors. Travelled a bit. Saw something and some places I have never seen before. Felt love. Made some great music with great people. And so forth. I am lucky. Damn lucky! Was 2023 a good year, tho? Is there actually anything good going on in this world right now? Genocide and invasion wars put a damper on things. Primary needs are too expensive. More and more people are standing in line at the food banks to feed their families. Residues from the pandemic; we have an increase in polarization, selfishness, loneliness, suicides, rudeness, mental health issues, a lack of communication and moral is on a decline, but people don’t really know they are affected. There’s an even greater gap between “Us” and “Them”. Racism is still going forward with more and more hate and popularism entering local and global politics. Corruption is a word no one utters, even in the face of it. And to further fuck things up, the old heap of mighty “leaders” never seem to retire! Damn, this is just getting depressive… At least more people are driving electric cars. I wish everyone a happy 2024. Let’s try to deserve it. Talk with your friends. Talk to strangers. Talk with people you disagree with. Learn new things. Teach things to others. Hang out away from your home. Take the bus to random places in the middle of the week to see what happens. Read up on topics that affect the world and the society around you. Cancel a streaming subscription or two. We need understanding through communication. That is just as good as giving a coin to a humanitarian organization, and perhaps even more important in this day and age. What is going on now isn’t working very well. But we can change it. Let’s give it a try at least. I hope to see you all in 2024. Happy new year. Much love, - Marius #nye2024 #thoughts #2023
