What moves us? What sparks us? How does the body appear when we are excited, scared, confident, embarrassed, exhausted, waiting, or bored?
Peridance welcomes Billy Barry (@billybarry ) and Gianni Notarnicola (@gianninot ) for their Movement and Emotions Guest Classes!
🗓️ Thursday, February 12: 10:00 - 11:30 AM
🗓️ Tuesday, February 17: 11:30 - 1:00 PM
⭐ Open Level
This Open Movement and Emotions Guest Class focuses on #emotions and their physical manifestations, exploring how the body can move from an emotion and how — through different materials and qualities of #movement — the body can also generate emotion from within.
Throughout the session, material will be created together with the #dancers and, through Billy’s and Gianni’s guidance, students will investigate movement language through #improvisation, choreography, and movement codes that can express emotional states, inner landscapes, or narrative structures.
Billy Barry (New York, USA) and Gianni Notarnicola (Puglia, Italy) began their journey as co-creators while dancing together in the Batsheva Dance Company. Inspired by each other’s natural quirks and distinct movement languages, they began to develop a shared choreographic voice—merging their personal vocabularies into a new, #playful physical language.

“Watching freelance artist and educator Billy Barry lead a recent GagaLab, it’s clear he doesn’t lean into predictability,” writes @bkerollis . “Guiding dancers through the wildly dynamic movement of Batsheva Dance Company house choreographer, Ohad Naharin, Barry suddenly lets out a startling squeal. In this moment, he simultaneously creates a safe space for experimentation while encouraging students to follow his lead and let loose.”
At the link in our bio, Barry breaks down his training, teaching method, and most valuable lessons.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Closed the last weeks of 2025 happily bouncing between homes, old and brand new. In New York, North Italy, Paris and Taipei, fam and I, we danced, we sang, we performed, we taught, we learned, we observed, we absorbed, we hot spring-ed, we cold plunged, we drank it up, we ate it up and got serious about how cute 2026 will be. 2025, you were an international dream of firsts and I’ll remember you fondly. Especially Heated Rivalry 🥰
