It’s my 40th birthday. Talk to me nice. Loving self-talk is one that I have had to shape, hone, and cultivate over and over again…and every time I think I have it just right, in perfect CTRL and symmetry, something or someone comes to remind me and knock me awry. Teasing, taunting, testing me to love a little softer, give a little more of myself…to myself. These 40 years have tested me in ways I didn’t think I would survive; but yet here I am. Strong, proud, all wrapped up in love. As Zora Neale Hurston said “To be brave costs something…Love makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place.” Love and loving yourself fully does cost, it cost the person you were, the plan you had, for the opportunity of what love could be. Thank you to all those who have loved all the iterations of me past, present, and future. This last year has been a deep dive into self. self care. self love. self grace. self momentum. Where I searched and longed for a slow life, built with intention and belonging. Filled with the simple things. A smile from a stranger. A warm cup of tea on a cold night. An iced matcha on a hotter then normal spring day. A life of purpose not petulance, clarity and consideration, consistency and courageousness. And along this journey I found those elements were there all along. Waiting to be given permission to bloom.
