Back on the grid and back with colour after a weekend’s site visit in Bradford to see progress on a new art installation ‘BD Colours’ created in collaboration with @bigg_design for Bradford Interchange - we are so excited to see this project come together, it’s half way there and already transforming the external spaces with a wash of dynamic colour.
Inspired by the vibrant colours of Bradford District, this abstract artwork celebrates the city and its surrounding landscapes, towns, and villages. From heather-clad moors and stone-cobbled streets to the radiant glow of city lights; from stunning architecture and a thriving cultural scene to bustling markets and aromatic kitchens; from tranquil parks, woodlands, and canal-side walks to lively festivals, sports, and rich heritage - each hue reflects the unique elements of the region, weaving them together to capture the diversity and beauty of Bradford District in every shade.
This weekend saw the opening event of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture and it was great to be in the city to feel the buzz and excitement for the year ahead and to see the artwork as a welcoming and colourful backdrop to those travelling in and out of the city.
We can’t wait to get back to photograph the internal spaces in the coming weeks and share the full details of our latest collaboration!
Huge thanks to the amazing teams @butterfield_signs and @balfourbeatty who have been working tirelessly through all weathers to get elements installed and ready for this weekend!
With thanks to @feredaypollardarchitects@bradfordmdc@westyorkshire_ca for this exciting opportunity!

This time last year we were collaborating with @bigg_design on installing a series of street artworks around Leith Links for Edinburgh City Council and @sustrans
Our largest artwork to date was delivered as part of Leith Connections, which is creating safer, more relaxing spaces to walk, wheel and cycle in Leith.
Working with community groups and local school children, the project transforms three road sites in an effort to brighten up people’s journeys and make walking and cycling around Leith safer and more appealing.
The largest site, John’s Place takes an ex-road that has been reclaimed as part of the Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme and decorates it with a sea-to-shore theme that nods to some of Leith’s rich history and the adjacent community allotments and urban croft Earth in Common.
We also produced a number of smaller installations at the neighbouring Primary schools, working with the children to design elements to not only brighten their approach but improve road safety and awareness of shared spaces. These featured on road and pavement murals, decorative vinyl stickers and custom signage.

Here’s a little update of what we’ve been up to of late - some work in progress of our new project working with @bigg_design for @queens_cross_housing and the Woodside Community Garden. After hosting drawing workshops with local nurseries and schools as well as drop in sessions in the community hub we’re now on site beginning to bring the paths to life with a giant botanical mural celebrating the variety of plants, fruits, vegetables and wildlife that thrive in the space. Once a basketball court the garden is now home to raised beds, polly tunnels and orchard. Brilliant green space in the heart of a community!
This month we’re excited to be collaborating once again with @bigg_design on two new community art & way finding projects. After the success and enjoyment of last Summer’s ‘Craigie Compass’ in Perth we’re looking forward to getting started. The only downside is these new projects are to be completed before Spring and it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting a heat wave anytime soon! However, no better way to perk up the spirits than by reminding ourselves that the sun does shine and even if it doesn’t the colours still pop!
The ‘Craigie Compass’ draws on the aesthetics of road signage and ground markings, reinventing them to create a colourful and engaging public space. A circle of posts support double-sided artworks symbolising local landmarks and places of interest, whilst a hand-painted ground mural acts as a ‘compass’ to point visitors in their direction.
Fun Makes Good and Bigg Design collaborated with Sustrans, the local community and Perth & Kinross Council to invigorate the previously run-down site with sculpture, art and planting, creating a new focal point for the neighbourhood and encouraging active travel across Perth & Kinross.

Fantastic to see the opening ceremony for the new #stockingfieldjunction bridge at the weekend and see the lighting that we designed with Lightfolio illuminate the site for the first time. Bigg Design has just launched a project write-up where you can see lots of images and find out more!

Great visit to @sculptureanddesignltd earlier in the week to see the beginnings of our #WoodsideGateway project for Aberdeen City Council coming along.
The bases of the sculptural columns have been cast (awaiting coming out of their moulds) and work has started on the sculptures themselves that will be mounted on top of colourful Douglas fir masts.
Each sculpture represents a piece of Woodside’s cultural and natural heritage. Here we start with the historic canals and weaving industries.

Swipe right to see some snippets from the auction…
Many thanks to @wildinart for the opportunity, to our sponsors @mcintoshofstrathmore for making it possible and congratulations to the lucky winner!

The making of’Daz’ the dazzling giraffe…
Bigg Design’s painted sculpture plays with a giraffe’s familiar camouflage pattern - metamorphosing into a striking design that takes inspiration from diverse sources including World War I dazzle ships, butterfly wings and 20th century avante-garde art. ‘Daz’ stands out from the herd and loves to strut his stuff!
You can see Daz at Newhaven harbour as part of the Giraffe About Town trail all over Edinburgh this summer, raising funds for @rzssofficial and @edinburghzoo .
Thanks to @mcintoshofstrathmore for kindly sponsoring our artwork!

Stage 1 of our Craigie Pocket Place artwork for @sustrans and @perthandkinross has now been installed!
Nine exuberant signs developed with the local community, children at Inch View Primary and collaborator @funmakesgood form the Craigie Compass. The artwork draws upon the graphic aesthetic of road signs and cycle lane markings to highlight places of local interest as well as those further along the National Cycle Network Route 775.
These include Loch Leven, St Magdalene’s Church, Craigie Cross, the South Inch, Perth city centre’s cultural buildings, Buckie Braes, Moncrieffe hill, Craigie waterfall and old mill.
The next stage is to paint our floor mural and way markers after the asphalt has fully cured, install benches and planting. Exciting things to come!
