SCAMPER… what is it and how does it work?
SCAMPER is a Play to help you get past an idea that you’re stuck on or to consider other ways forward. It stands for Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate and Rearrange. Even if you proceed with your original idea, using SCAMPER can help you proceed with more understanding of the bigger picture.

One of our favourite Plays to do to stress-test your thinking and to spot weak links is our Devil’s AI-dvocate exercise. It’s a quick Play that allows you to explore what you might be missing when you’re facing an important decision.

’Map the pain, not the process’ is one of our favourite Plays for when you and your team knows something needs to change and you need to avoid repeating old mistakes. It works because when you rigorously and repeatedly ask “why?” it ensures any superficial causes are picked apart until you arrive at a problem really worth solving.
