On Friday 22 and Saturday 23 August I will be premiering a new piece for voice and live IV machine in @nowornever.melb produced by @chamber.made My piece is called Song to the Cell and will take place in the Salon @melbrecital alongside new works by @avivaendean and @alxandraspence This performance is all part of Listening Acts which includes installations by @its_a_mon_day @liebzeit @tamsaulwick @thembisoddell @h.m.d.f @__bracewell available around the various spaces of the MRC. We’ve all been working in this for a long time and I am excited not just about my piece but all the other amazing expressions of creativity. Thank you to @tomlinmedical for the machines. I’m still looking for a tulle/organza/tutu skirt. Photos by @sarahtakesphotos

When you think you’ve fooled your search engine by not signing in - but it knows it’s you. All I wrote was “tulle skirt” 😂 This is a warmup post about a couple of things I’m involved in for the Now or Never festival: a live performance and a beautiful VR premiere. I was thinking of wearing a tulle skirt at said live performance. But now I must know: what is a tulle skirt called? Answer: Tutu, it’s called a tutu New Question: can a 53 year old with a belly (that existed before, during and probably after menopause) wear a tutu? All will be revealed.

Meet Biddy Connor (VIC), 2025 AMF Recipient. ✨ Biddy Connor’s Song to the Cell transforms an IV machine into an instrument in this intimate performance. A vocalist and a medical device entwine in a unique duet of hums, beeps and mechanical rhythms, exploring ideas of healing, dependency and transhuman connection. She shares “The Art Music Fund is crucial because it champions ambitious, innovative and often genre-defying contemporary music that might otherwise lack dedicated backing. It allows composers to take creative risks and develop original and artistic works. Without this support, many significant projects in art music would simply not be unrealised.”

Eternal Music Projects presents: Bush Fashion (Dave Brown & Mat Watson) & Light Burst (Biddy Connor & Lizzy Welsh) 8pm 11th Dec @wildflowerpicturehousebar (fka Longplay) Join us for an intimate night of outsider sounds at Wildflower Picture House in North Fitzroy (fka Longplay). . . . Bush Fashion is an improvisational duo made up of Dave Brown (Pateras/Baxter/Brown, Candlesnuffer, Bucketrider, Brown.Buck.Mayas) & Mat Watson (Borerdoms Boadrum, ULMD, Heavy Spectra, Taipan Tiger Girls). The seed of Bush Fashion grew from their infrequent collaboration over the past decade in Melbourne’s experimental music scene. Bush Fashion explores non-conformist, collaborative musical language utilising a treated hollow body guitar and matrix programmable portable modular system. Their performances are a wash of nuanced alien language, call and response, and entangled human energy, revealing new realities to the listener. Light Burst is the new duo of multi-instrumentalists and composers Biddy Connor and Lizzy Welsh. Based between Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung country in Naarm (Melbourne) and Djaara country in Central Victoria, Light Burst grew out of the murky depths of pandemic lock downs. Combining electronics with rarely-heard acoustic instruments from different eras, Light Burst weaves a unique and exciting timbral cambric. Biddy and Lizzy have over ten years of collaboration history, playing with The Letter String Quartet, John Cale, Gang of Youths, Mick Harvey, Spritualized and others. #eternalmusicprojects @candlesnuffer2256 @biddyconnor @lizzywelshviolin @wildflowerpicturehousebar @eternalmusicprojects

It’s been a pretty lovely time of late reconnecting with these extremely gifted musical humans @mflynnth @biddyconnor @songsfromprudence in preparation for ‘How Do We Remain’. A sound installation designed by Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey, for vintage electronics, software and acoustic instruments. We’ll be playing with all of these things (plus more!) throughout this evolving and expanding work, experimenting with sound emitting from ultrasonic kinetic speakers, creating and listening in ways we’ve never experienced before. Very much looking forward to sharing this, a debut outing of the new ensemble: 🫶🏜️🏝️~Golden Sands~🏝️🏜️🫶 🌊〰️🌊〰️🌊〰️🌊〰️🌊〰️🌊〰️🌊 Designed for audiences to stay as long as they like in the darkened sanctuary of the Primrose Potter Salon at Melbourne Recital Centre for Open House. 2pm-8pm Friday 26th July & 10am-4pm Saturday 27th July Free entry☺️ Hope to see you there- details link in bio With thanks to @mflynnth @melbrecital @openhousemelb for inviting us along for the ride✨
