Let’s keep coming back to: simplicity, specificity, personal investment, emotional connection, letting go of playing an idea or something planned and controlled. Let’s instead have an intimate, truthful, specific conversation in the scene. In real time. Wholly invested- from your own specific and, yes… personal experience and point of view. Trust your impulse and what you know to be true, and express your unique, authentic voice in the world of the play and the character’s circumstances.
Know what you must get, what you care about in the story... deeply... even in… especially in… a comedy or a procedural. Open the crucible of vulnerability, and from there... take action. So you can reach to another human being, another character, with that? Know what you want from that specific relationship. Fight for something... there is always something specific to fight for.
Sometimes these practices get lost. Let’s keep coming back to them to bring us back to it really counts, what really grounds every single audition. Let’s remember this work and work on this work.
