⌛ Hearing and imagination are not corrupt. Just the interpretation of its meanings is corrupt. So we might think about the possibilities of hearing, the possibilities of culture composting, the possibilities of things ending and transforming. Not the force of wanting to stop the process of transformation by means of imperial or anti-imperial methods. Individuality, Community and change are possible because of things ending and beginning. By holding onto the past we are trying to freeze sound, we are trying to make so called Nature a parking space for empty machines. ✍️ Written by Stefan Fraunberger, Austrian composer & artist. 🎹 Stefan Fraunberger - Sonic Eschatologies: Liminal qualities of compos(t)ing culture / community visions from the other side Saturday, Nov 15, 13:30 - Teatrul Național București, Sala Mică 🎹 Stefan Fraunberger is an Austrian composer and sound artist whose work explores transformation, liminality, and the dialog between nature and culture. He studied electro-acoustic music, together with Arabic language, Oriental studies and philosophy, and wrote a thesis on liminality drawing on pre-modern Sufi cosmology. A major strand of his research is the Quellgeister project: investigating derelict pipe-organs in abandoned churches (especially in Transylvania), listening to how these ritual machines change when left to nature, decay, weather, memory and time. Join us at the Sonic Turn conference for an engaging exploration of themes of transformation. Also on Sunday at controlclub, 7PM we will wrap up the conference weekend with a special kind of live experience from Stefan Fraunberger, starting 19:00. Free entry! *** The Sonic Turn is a cultural project co-financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund (AFCN). The project does not necessarily represent the views of AFCN. This Sunday, November 16, we’re hosting a different kind of live experience from Stefan Fraunberger (@beyond_counterpoint ), starting 19:00. Titled “Quellgeister” (‘source-spirits’), the project explores the unique voices of derelict pipe organs found in Transylvania’s abandoned fortress churches. Described as “eschewing the pomp of sacred music for the fragile drone of an organic death knell,” Frauenberger’s work has been featured at CTM Festival Berlin, Grand Palais Paris, and beyond. 🎫 Free Entry for this one

📡 Between November 14 and 15, 2025, The Attic presents The Sonic Turn international conference in the Small Hall of National Theater Bucharest. 🎙 GUESTS: ◉ Cătălina Tesăr (RO) ◉ Cosmin Nicolae (RO) ◉ Delia Grigore (RO) ◉ Holger Schulze (DK) ◉ Ian Nagoski (USA) ◉ Manja Ristić (RS) ◉ Maria Balabaș (RO) ◉ Salomé Voegelin (CH/UK) ◉ Simina Oprescu (RO) ◉ Stefan Fraunberger (AT) 🎤 The program also includes a panel discussion curated by @platforma.iscoada addressing the topic of sonic surveillance in techno-feudalism. Details very soon. The full conference program, as well as info tickets, will be available very soon. Stay tuned! The Sonic Turn is an interdisciplinary initiative that places sound at the center of understanding contemporary cultural and socio-political phenomena. The project focuses on a paradigm shift increasingly present in international research and public discourse: the understanding and use of sound as a tool for knowledge and critical reflection. This reorientation positions sound as a critical mode of investigation, a material force, and a site of power. The Sonic Turn opens a dialogue on the role that acoustic experiences play in shaping and deconstructing memory, identity, and the social body. Together, we ask: what does it mean to think with and through sound today—and how might the future look and sound under this renewed attention to sonic experience? The Sonic Turn is a cultural project co-financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund ( @fondul_cultural_national AFCN). The project does not necessarily represent the views of AFCN. @beyond_counterpoint | May 9 Quellgeister is the name of the musical cycle that the Austrian composer and artist Stefan Fraunberger has been developing for 25 years - all on dilapidated pipe organs in the abandoned fortress churches of Transylvania. Once built by ethnic Germans who fled the country during communist rule, the ritual machines were abandoned to the wilderness like stranded spaceships. On their corroded stop actions and with their perforated bellows, Fraunberger plays music that is as much about material transformation as it is about the collapse of opposites in our dawning epoch. After the crash is before the round of blissful spirits: Kuruzenaufstand, the fourth part of the Quellgeister cycle, will be premiered at the donaufestival. #donaufestival #df25 #stefanfraunberger
