@ontherecordmem
This memorial, to be located at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire
@nat_mem_arb , with a sister piece at St Bride's Church, commemorates British and UK-based journalists who have lost their lives reporting from conflict zones. 'During the Blitz all 12 bells of the “Journalists” Church St Brides on Fleetstreet were destroyed. Only one bell was ever recast. The silenced bells of Fleetstreet will symbolically be replaced and situated in the National Arboretum in the form of 11 boulders set within a woodland clearing. Freestanding wall elements with imprinted reliefs of the boulders refer to witnessing and testimony, channels and way marking trees speak of distances- departure and return.'
Barbara is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Sculptors and member of The London Group. Through elemental materials she explores states of change, balance, weight, motion and form. Toby works across fields of architecture, urbanism and art, focusing on circular and regenerative material systems. Their shared interests in site specific work, process, craftsmanship and in geography and history as a dynamic fields of relationships, have informed the concept development for their proposal titled clearing.
