SZN 2. We’re back.
Always a good time curating this series with our friends @stemmabrewing and @juxttaphouse . Same idea - 1 beer x 4 designers creating an epic 4 pack of styles, colors and concepts.
This year we introduced a new name and invited 3 new friends to join us - @stepfrae , @maddyporter and @hellomelendez .
Stevie is probably our favorite artist of any discipline right now. Just crushing the game and doing ALL the things.
We have followed Maddy’s design with envy for years now at one of our favorite design shops in Seattle (DEI) and she is the co-founder/creator of one of our favorite brands, Yonder Cider.
Victor has been a favorite of ours for awhile and when we envisioned this project a few years ago he was on the short list of folks we hoped to have participate.
Each has such a distinct and beautiful style. Thank you all for designing with us.

Eat Beets Every Day!
Our friends and neighbors at @otherlandsbeer have turned us into Beet Believers! So when they asked us to help them create some shirts honoring the glorious beet and their special place on Otherlands cafe menu we could not have been more excited…that is until they told us they wanted these to be inspired by vintage propaganda posters!
Head over to Otherlands and pick up “Workers Unite” and “Cosmonaut” tees. While you are there try the beet Reuben and of course have a few of Ben’s amazing beers.

We have reached the final introduction of Stemma Brewing’s Fresh Hop IPA. The beer is canned and packed and we snuck a taste. Damn this drinks as good as it looks! Tomorrow folks…be there. Don’t miss this. Follow along with Stemma and JUXT for more details.
Rounding out the 4 pack is a special one for us - our very own Kit Shaughnessy of Variant @kitshaughnessy . Kit is an absolute savage designer and illustrator here in Bellingham and that also might have been the first time “savage “ and “Kit” were used together in a sentence. After 14 years at Toolhouse, Kit became a founding member of our Variant Design team and has helped shape the design direction here ever since. Kit has also played an outsized role in putting this whole project together. His friendships with the fellas at JUXT and Stemma got us in the room together for the first time (and by room I mean beers in the JUXT Treehouse). He has been part of the concepting of this series from the beginning to end. From original “what if…” thoughts, to naming and color palette, all the way to his own design and series mock ups.
Kit’s Fractured Universe design takes a more literal approach using outer space as the backdrop. If you know Kit you know outer space is ALWAYS a good backdrop. Our imperiled spaceman is literally facing a fracturing universe and we love the vintage sci-fi vibes we get from this design. Kit 🙏 - it never gets old seeing your work. But more importantly thank you for your friendship to all of us at Variant and to the many others involved in this project.

We have made the turn! Picking up steam towards the launch and drinking of this delicious beer on Thursday the 30th. This is a good time to point out Fractured Universe is Stemma’s FIRST EVER CANNED FRESH HOP IPA. As if this wasn’t special enough already…Now back to highlighting each designer and design making up this 4 pack.
Hailing from Portland Oregon, introducing Maria Janosko @mariajanosko ! Maria is a brand and digital designer and a new friend. She has worked at some of the best brand/ad shops in Portland including the venerable Parliament, Sockeye, and Smith + Connors. We were new to Maria’s work but immediately drawn to her elegant shape and line work, which we hoped would translate to a different visual perspective for this project. Hot DAMN did she deliver! Maria’s Fractured Universe design takes a subtle and abstract approach with an optical break in seemingly consistent line work. We all loved the juxtaposition of the background softness with the hard lines of the graphic. In fact, we loved it so much that Maria’s design was given a special treatment - all her line work has a metallic finish! How could we not?! Maria’s is a show stopper in person and all you minimalist fans out there are going to love this one. Maria 🙏 - can’t wait to work together again.

Continuing to introduce Stemma Brewing’s Fractured Universe Fresh Hop IPA. Over the next couple days we will highlight each design and designer making up this special 4 pack.
Next up is Brandon Ramirez of @skymtncreative . Brandon is a brand, product, and graphic designer here in Bellingham by way of Seattle. He was one of the original partners at cool factory Mystery Made in Seattle before escaping the big city. Brandon has worked with and for some of the biggest names in the outdoor/action sports industry including K2, Ride Snowboards, Laird, Outdoor Research, Evil Bikes and many others. Brandon’s Fractured Universe design features elements of his beloved outdoors subtly and whimsically combined with some more sinister elements. He goes all the way back to design school with some of our team and we are thrilled he has returned to Bellingham! 🙏 Brandon for joining us on this one.
