Third attempt at posting, sorry! Here’s another sneak peak from my London show opening this weekend: 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘢 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦. 2023, watercolour on paper, 22”x30" / 55.9x76.2cm. (The title is a remix of descriptors of this image and quotes from Margaret Atwood’s 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥, which was a big influence for me on this body of work. Previews Saturday and Sunday at @motherstankstation in Bethnal Green, in collaboration with @_pamelaweissenberg as part of @condo_complex . I’ve included a couple detail shots to show the lovely way that watercolour does its work. It sometimes has its own plans in how it’s going to flow and stain, and its up to me to follow the paint and work together with it to tell a story I want to tell.

Insatisfecha con la facilidad inicial de tales herramientas, Beth busca el desafío de implementar su propia autoría, resaltando las marcas e improvisaciones propias de su práctica artística. En conjunto, estos enfoques se convierten en las herramientas de Frey para la construcción de un mundo: un espacio acuoso y colorido que es a la vez utópico y distópico, donde las fronteras entre lo humano y lo animal, lo hermoso y lo grotesco, y lo ligero y lo melancólico a menudo se difuminan. What a pleasure to have @drycleaningband asked me to learn a dance by @bullyache_ and perform it for the visualiser video for their excellent song “Evil Evil Idiot” on their new album Secret Love. I’m not the most coordinated person, but I love to turn awkwardness into an art form. I had plans to shoot this in front of one the strange shopfronts on Plaza St-Hubert, but a -15C cold snap forced me indoors and onto the eastbound platform of Fabre metro, in front of its Technicolor bubble butts. Full video is on YouTube, but I recommend you give the entire album a listen because it’s one of my new favourites. 💚

In one section of the exhibition, visitors encounter an installation created around one main video. Playing alongside a series of drawings, smaller tablets display footage that follows the artist in her studio as she activates her body and diverse objects in front of a green screen, highlighting the human presence behind digital creation. Surrounding the screens are hundreds of small blind-contour drawings, wigs, and handmade props that shaped the work, offering an intimate glimpse into how the piece came together. Beth Frey’s current solo exhibition 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 continues at the gallery until December 20, 2025. 🎭 Dans une section de l’exposition, les visiteur·euse·s découvrent une installation créée autour d’une vidéo principale. BETH FREY 🎭 @bethisms @sentientmuppetfactory Artiste invitée | Invited Artist Beth Frey (née en 1980 à Calgary, Alberta) est titulaire d’une M.A de l’Université Concordia et d’un B.A de l’Université de Victoria. Elle a présenté ses œuvres dans de nombreuses expositions individuelles au Canada, au Royaume-Uni, aux États-Unis et au Mexique. Son travail a également été inclus dans des expositions collectives majeures, notamment au Museo Cabañas à Guadalajara (Mexique), au Dowse Art Museum à Lower Hutt (Nouvelle-Zélande), et au Musée d’art de Joliette. Ses collaborations avec le collectif vocal expérimental Phth ont été présentées à la Biennale FEMSA 2024 à Guanajuato (Mexique) ainsi qu’à la Société des Arts Technologiques à Montréal en 2025. 🌈 Beth Frey (b. 1980, Calgary, Alberta) holds a Master of Fine Arts in Painting & Drawing from Concordia University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Victoria.
