Country Performance Story: Staging critical spatial acts of political resistance with @doritahannah . Hosted by Bangawarra and @betchouf   Link in bio 🔗 “In these volatile times, it seems more urgent than ever to critically reconsider the necessary and entangled relationship between space and performance, between site and action, between object and event, between theatre as built form and theatre as art form.” Dorita Hannah, 2023   Join us for an immersive, interactive gathering in the PACT Theatre that explores marginalised feminist critiques through the staging of critical spatial acts of political resistance. This event will bring together a dynamic mix of thinkers, creators, and changemakers to interrogate how space - physical, social, and symbolic - is shaped by, and responds to, systems of power, identity, and resistance. Through a series of performances, installations, conversations and interactive art-making, we will collectively examine the potential of space-making practices that disrupt, reimagine, and reclaim. Whether you are a researcher, artist, activist, performer or interested community member, this event invites you to participate in a living dialogue on how we resist, build, and occupy space, together. Expect thought-provoking work at the intersection of art, activism, and academia. Expect to be challenged. Expect to create. Expect to connect.

The Seed Bank, an experiential process of preservation realised through the format of a hanging mobile. Questioning what paper-making teaches us about rituals and occupations attached to our identities. Through the process we shared intimate stories associated with each seed and grain; heating, grinding, soaking, pressing and preserving in a material form. Playing with the material in our homes to better attune ourselves to understand the climatic happenings of the far-off regions we are connected to.  The mobile became our sanctuary, reflecting our archival method of a seed bank and our celebration of the Fertile Crescent. A crescent-like shape of rich soils spans the SWANA region.   The seeds in this vault hold the ancient knowledges of our ancestors. We are inspired by the stories of survival between seed species and people who have adopted the role of preserving seeds in their homes throughout destruction. We want to stay attuned to the shifting seasons, prayer, dance and rituals associated with the harvesting life cycles. The preservation reenacted the grief, labour and skills of our communities and reimagined an act that allows us to be part of their stories.  Thank you to curator @gracie.grew & @tinshedsgallery for the opportunity to display our work as a part of  Salone De Mobile (Feb 2024) 📷 by Maja Baska

Honoured & excited to be taking part in this Roundtable with some of our mentors & peers @ UTS Link in our bio to registration & info. Educated Bodies explores the challenges architectural education faces today, including the urgency to forefront decolonial design methodologies and critical environmental thinking. Welcoming bodies of ‘the other’ and of the ‘more-than-human’ into schools is an opportunity to re-imagine architectural education. This roundtable brings together educators and critical spatial practitioners, across architecture and landscape architecture, to present the ways in which they have developed alternative pedagogical approaches that welcome decolonial desires and critical environmental thinking into the classroom. A discussion, led by current students of architecture, will follow to unpack how and what it means to make space for the ‘other’ in architectural education.
